The comments, made as Operation Epic Fury targeted Iranian nuclear and missile sites, have led to accusations that the "Squad" member is echoing enemy propaganda.
The "Ramadan" Claim Fact-Checked
Omar claimed that "Iraq was attacked by the US during Ramadan" and suggested the U.S. "loves to strike Muslim countries" based on "who they worship." However, X’s Community Notes quickly debunked the historical premise:
Iraq War (2003): The invasion began on March 20, 2003. Ramadan did not begin until October 27th of that year—a seven-month gap.
Operation Desert Storm (1991): The campaign began on January 17, 1991. Ramadan did not start until mid-March of that year.
Dalia al-Aqidi, an Iraqi-American running for Omar’s seat, labeled the posts a "deliberate lie" intended to "inflame anger and divide Americans" during a moment of high military tension.
"Laser-Focused" Mission: The Pentagon Responds
While the political debate raged, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth provided a decisive update on the military's progress. Joined by General Dan Caine, Hegseth described the operation as a "laser-focused" mission to eliminate the conventional and nuclear threat posed by the Iranian regime.

"Destroy Iranian missiles, destroy Iranian missile production, destroy their navy... and they will never have nuclear weapons," Hegseth stated. He emphasized that the 2026 operation is the "opposite" of the nation-building wars of the past 20 years, focusing strictly on degrading infrastructure to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran and protect global shipping lines.
Casualties and Combat Assessment
General Caine reported that CENTCOM is currently conducting battle damage assessments. While the mission has successfully avoided "boots on the ground," the human cost of the conflict is rising. The Iranian Red Crescent reports 555 fatalities in Iran, while at least 11 people have been killed in Israel due to retaliatory escalations. Hegseth maintained that Iran started the war through its "stubborn nuclear pursuit" and its threats to international security.
