THE owner of a Swiss bar in which 40 people died during a New Year fire will spend at least the next three months in prison.

Judges in the Sion court heard on Monday that Jacques Moretti, 49, was considered a flight risk.

The disgraced bar owner will remain in pre-trial detention until March.

The majority of the victims burned to death in the early hours of January 1 at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort after becoming trapped on a narrow staircase that had been reduced in size by the owners.

Moretti is currently in custody and faces a range of charges including manslaughter by negligence.
