Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept

One year later.
The private garden behind the Hawthorne Ridge estate was transformed into an enchanted sanctuary of white roses, twinkling fairy lights, and classical violin music.
Fifty of their closest friends, medical staff from the Lily Monroe Center, and trusted allies sat along the central aisle.
At the altar stood Roman Black, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo. He looked towering, commanding, and impeccably handsome, but his eyes were fixed entirely on the end of the white carpet aisle.
Standing beside him as his best man was Detective Mark Miller—now the head of private security for Black Enterprises—and little Sophie, who stood proudly as the flower girl in a white lace dress with a flower crown in her hair.
The violin music shifted into a slow, breathtaking processional.
Ava stepped onto the carpet.
She looked like an angel. Her dress was a custom white lace gown with a long, flowing train that swept gracefully behind her. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of fresh white lilies and red roses.
As she walked down the aisle toward Roman, their eyes locked, and the entire universe seemed to shrink down to just the two of them.
She reached the altar.
Roman took her hands into his, his broad thumb gently wiping away a single tear of joy from her cheek.
"You take my breath away, Ava," Roman whispered softly.
"You're not allowed to lose your breath," Ava whispered back with a radiant smile. "I'm your nurse, remember?"
The minister stepped forward, speaking words of love, resilience, and destiny.
When it came time for the vows, Roman looked straight into Ava’s hazel eyes.
"Ava," Roman said, his voice deep and resonant. "I spent my whole life building walls to keep the world out. I thought strength meant being cold. But you showed me that true strength is built on love, sacrifice, and mercy. I promise to honor you, protect you, and stand by your side through every storm, for all the days of my life."
Ava smiled, her eyes shining with endless love.
"Roman," Ava said softly. "I used to think my life was defined by the things I had lost. But the night I answered Sophie's phone call, I found everything I had ever prayed for. You gave me a family, a home, and a love that healed every broken part of my heart. I promise to love you, support you, and walk beside you forever."
"By the power vested in me," the minister announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Roman, you may kiss your bride."
Roman didn't wait. He stepped forward, taking Ava in his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a passionate, deep, lifelong kiss.
The guests erupted into wild cheers and applause. White rose petals rained down from the trees above.
Roman lifted Ava into his arms, carrying her down the aisle, both of them laughing with pure, unbridled happiness, with Sophie running happily beside them, holding her father's jacket hem.
They stepped out onto the open lawn under the warm, golden light of the setting sun.
Ava looked up at the sky, feeling the cool breeze on her face, knowing that somewhere up there, Lily was watching, smiling, and at peace.
