The weeks that followed were brutal in a different way. The in-laws didn't go away quietly. They launched a smear campaign, telling the rest of the family that we were "selfish" and had "stolen" the property from the grandparents.
But David and I held firm. We changed the locks—every single one of them. We blocked their numbers. We made it clear that any further harassment would be met with a restraining order.
