Chapter 7 - The Battle for the Board

At 9:00 AM on Friday morning, the global virtual conference room of Montgomery Enterprises went live.
Over four hundred major institutional investors, board members, financial journalists, and international market analysts logged onto the secure streaming network. On screens across Wall Street, London, and Tokyo, the ticker symbol MGL flickered nervously as rumors of executive instability bounced across trading floors.
Julian Montgomery sat in the center of the sleek broadcasting studio at Montgomery Tower, dressed in a sharp navy suit, looking every inch the composed, modern CEO ready to step into power.
"Welcome, shareholders and members of the board," Julian began, his voice projected clearly through high-definition microphones. "It is with a heavy heart that I open this morning's session with a grave announcement regarding my father, founder and Chairman Richard Montgomery."
Across the country, screens reflected Julian's solemn, carefully practiced expression of tragic concern.
"Over the past six months," Julian continued, pulling a stack of official-looking medical documents toward him, "our executive team has observed a rapid, heartbreaking decline in my father’s cognitive health. Today, I am presenting certified evaluations from leading neurological specialists recommending an immediate transfer of executive authority to my office to protect the stability of Montgomery Enterprises."
Dr. Harrison stepped up to the podium beside Julian, clearing his throat to speak into the microphone. "As primary attending physician, I can confirm that Richard Montgomery’s recent behavioral patterns demonstrate severe—"
BZZZZZT.
Suddenly, the massive LED video wall behind Julian’s desk flickered violently, cutting from the official presentation graphics to a dark, static-filled screen.
The audio feed hummed with a loud, piercing frequency.
Julian’s eyes widened in alarm. He turned frantically to his technical team in the control booth behind the glass. "What is happening? Cut the feed! Cut the feed!"
"Sir, we've lost control of the broadcast signal!" the chief engineer screamed from the booth. "Someone is overriding our master satellite hookup from an external IP address!"
The static on the massive video wall cleared.
Appearing on the twenty-foot screen, sharp, clear, and unyielding, was Richard Montgomery.
He sat behind a dark desk in a warm, dignified study, wearing a sharp charcoal suit. Beside him stood the lead federal prosecutor for the Southern District and two uniformed officers from the Financial Crimes Unit.
A collective gasp rippled through the virtual conference room containing four hundred global shareholders.
"Good morning, shareholders," Richard Montgomery said, his voice booming through every speaker in the studio with the authority of thunder. "I assure you, my cognitive faculties are entirely intact. However, my son’s moral faculties have completely collapsed."
"Cut the power to the studio!" Julian roared, leaping from his chair, his face contorted in sheer panic. "Turn off the servers!"
"It’s no use, Julian," Richard’s voice continued smoothly over the master speakers. "The broadcast is currently being relayed through twelve redundant global nodes. And the entire world is about to see what you've been doing behind closed doors."
The video wall split into multiple panels.
On the left side, the forged bank accounts and offshore transaction ledgers scrolling line by line in high resolution. On the right side, the clear audio and high-definition video of Julian standing in his private office, laughing as he discussed putting his father in an institution and firing twenty thousand dockworkers to liquidate company assets.
The global chat interface exploded with thousands of messages per second from horrified investors.
SELL ORDER CANCELLED.
INVESTIGATION DEMANDED.
ARREST JULIAN MONTGOMERY.
Julian fell back into his leather chair, his face completely drained of color, his breathing ragged as he stared at the screen showing his entire criminal empire crumbling into dust in front of the world.
"You thought you were smarter than everyone else, Julian," Richard said, staring directly into the camera lens with deep, heartbreaking sorrow. "You thought you could buy doctors, intimidate board members, and step over the people who built this company. But you forgot one thing."
May you like
Richard paused, his voice softening slightly, filled with a proud, fierce warmth.
"You forgot that the truth always finds a way out of the dark."
