Chapter 10 - The King’s New Crown

Six months later.

The morning sun streamed brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the grand villa overlooking the blue waters of Cape Cod.

In the spacious, green backyard, eight-year-old Matteo was running.

He wasn't limping, he wasn't panting, and his lips were a healthy, vibrant pink. He sprinted across the soft grass, laughing aloud as he chased a golden retriever puppy, kicking a bright red soccer ball with all his strength.

His heart—rebuilt by the world’s best surgeons in a private Boston clinic—worked perfectly.

Standing on the sunlit wooden deck, Leah watched him with a gentle, radiant smile.

She looked completely different from the tired, battered banquet server who had pushed a dirty laundry cart through the Grand Aurelia’s service halls. She wore an elegant, flowing cream-colored sundress that hugged her soft curves gracefully. Her dark hair fell in glossy, healthy curls around her shoulders, and her skin glowed with health and peace.

A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

Julian pulled her gently against his broad chest, resting his chin on her shoulder. He wore a simple white linen shirt, his sharp jaw smooth, his amber eyes soft as he watched Matteo play on the lawn.

Sable and Gabriel were gone—their criminal empire completely dismantled and absorbed by Julian’s legal corporate holdings. The North End was peaceful, and the dangerous shadows of Julian’s past had been swept clean.

“He’s getting fast,” Julian murmured softly, kissing the side of Leah’s neck.

“He wants to join the local little league team next month,” Leah smiled, leaning back against his chest, placing her hands over his long fingers wrapped around her waist. “Dr. Harrison signed his health release yesterday.”

Julian smiled—a real, genuine smile that transformed his intimidating face into something remarkably handsome.

“I’ve already bought the team,” Julian said smoothly. “And the field. And the stadium.”

Leah turned around in his arms, laughing softly as she hit his chest playfully. “Julian Vance! You can't just buy everything Matteo wants to do!”

“I can,” Julian replied, his amber eyes locking onto hers with deep, eternal devotion. “Because everything I have belongs to you and him.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, navy-blue velvet box.

Leah’s breath hitched.

Julian dropped to one knee on the sunlit deck, holding the open box up to her. Inside sat a breathtaking emerald-cut diamond ring, flanked by two small, sparkling sapphires.

“Six months ago, Leah Moreno,” Julian said, his voice deep, gravelly, and full of emotion, “you looked at a bleeding, dangerous stranger in a dark alley and decided he was worth saving. You gave me back my life. You gave this home its heart.”

He looked up at her, his dark scar catching the morning light.

“Will you do me the ultimate honor of becoming my wife? Will you rule this life with me forever?”

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy welled in Leah’s eyes. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

“Yes,” Leah sobbed happily, stepping forward and wrapping her arms around his neck. “Yes, Julian! A thousand times yes!”

Julian stood up, slipping the diamond ring onto her finger, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their future under the clear blue sky.

Across the lawn, Matteo stopped chasing the puppy and held up his plastic blue train, waving at them with a bright, triumphant grin.

“Look, Aunt Leah!” Matteo shouted happily. “The king found his crown!”

Julian looked at the boy, then at the beautiful, plump woman held tightly in his arms, and smiled.

He hadn't just found a crown.
