Chapter 6 - The Sabotage

The discovery of the engineered defect turned the corporate chess match into a literal fight for survival. Orthodyne Global’s intelligence network realized within hours that Ethan had accessed the internal joint metrics, and they could no longer afford to rely on city inspectors or legal warnings.

At 2:45 AM on a stormy Thursday night, the power lines supplying the research hangar at the executive airport were suddenly cut. The emergency backup generators kicked on, their low hum vibrating through the dark structure, casting long, eerie shadows across the aircraft bays.

Ethan was asleep on a cot near his workbench when the sound of shattering safety glass echoed from the rear intake vents.

He sat up instantly, his hand moving to grip a heavy steel tire iron he kept beneath his pillow. Through the dim emergency lighting, he saw four figures moving with military precision across the polished floor, dressed in matte-black tactical gear and carrying high-velocity extraction tools.

"Secure the workspace!" one of the intruders barked in a muffled tone. "Locate the digital drives and the physical prototypes. Burn the rest."

The Hangar DefenseEthan didn't run. This hangar held the blueprints for Amelia’s freedom and the evidence that could save thousands of children from state-sanctioned cruelty.

The First Encounter: As the lead intruder reached the central workbench, Ethan stepped out from behind a stack of aircraft tires, swinging the tire iron with the full force of a man who had spent fifteen years lifting heavy engine blocks. The iron connected with the man’s shoulder structure with a loud, metallic crunch, sending him crashing into a rack of chemical solvents.

The Tactical Blind: Ethan slapped the emergency fire-suppression override on the wall. A thick, blinding cloud of chemical foam exploded from the ceiling nozzles, filling the hangar with a dense, white fog that neutralized the intruders' night-vision optics.

The Extraction: Through the chaos, Ethan grabbed the primary encrypted solid-state drive containing the microscopic scans and slipped toward the hangar's auxiliary fuel bay exit.

Before he could reach the door, a heavy boot slammed into his back, sending him crashing into the concrete floor. The team leader pinned him down, a cold, composite-handled knife pressing against the side of Ethan’s neck.

"Give us the drive, mechanic," the man hissed, his breath hot against Ethan’s ear. "You’re way out of your depth. People like you don't survive structural realignments."

"Then it's a good thing he isn't alone," a voice echoed through the chemical mist.

A massive, armored transport vehicle burst through the hangar’s main roller doors, its high-intensity LED searchlights cutting through the foam like lasers. Marcus Vance, Valerie’s security chief, stood in the open side door, holding a non-lethal tactical launcher.

Within seconds, three rapid flashes of compressed gas filled the air. The remaining intruders were slammed to the floor by high-impact kinetic rounds, their weapons scattered across the concrete. The team leader released Ethan, trying to scramble toward the broken intake vent, but Marcus was already over him, pinning his arms behind his back with reinforced steel flex-cuffs.

Valerie Stone stepped out of the rear seat of the transport vehicle, wearing a waterproof trench coat, her eyes reflecting the cold blue flashes of the emergency lights. She walked over to Ethan, offering him a hand to pull him up from the wet concrete.

"Are you hurt?" she asked, her voice tight with concern.

"Just a scratched fender," Ethan breathed, holding up the intact solid-state drive in his hand. "They came for the evidence. That means they know we have them dead to rights."

"They're desperate," Valerie said, looking down at the captured operatives. "Julian Vance just called an extraordinary meeting of the international medical board for tomorrow afternoon in Houston. They are trying to fast-track a global injunction against our technology before we can go public. We’re done hiding in hangars, Ethan. Tomorrow, we take the garage to the world."
