Chapter 7 - The Legal Siege

While Micah’s recovery began in the quiet sanctuary of the penthouse, a violent corporate and legal storm was raging across Manhattan.

Graham and Lorraine had not gone quietly. Backed by a high-priced, aggressive divorce attorney named Richard Sterling, they had filed a countersuit against Audrey, accusing her of "corporate espionage," "tortious interference," and "maternal abandonment."

They were seeking full custody of Micah, along with a temporary injunction to freeze Audrey’s voting shares in Keller Northstar.

"They're desperate, Audrey," Arthur Pendelton said, sitting at the dining table in her penthouse, surrounded by stacks of legal briefs. "They know that if they lose custody, they lose access to the family trust payouts. Graham’s personal bank accounts are empty, and his mother’s credit cards are completely maxed out. They are living off loans from their wealthy friends, and those friends are starting to pull back."

"Let them file whatever they want, Arthur," Audrey said, her voice calm and steady as she watched Micah play quietly with his wooden blocks across the room. "We have the medical report. We have the CPS investigation results."

"They are going to try to paint you as an unstable, career-obsessed mother who abandoned her child for twenty months," Arthur warned. "Sterling is ruthless. He’s already leaked several fabricated stories to the tabloids about your 'erratic behavior' in Seattle."

"Let him leak them," Audrey said, her eyes flashing with a cold, lethal intensity. "In fact, I want you to arrange a meeting with Sterling and my husband tomorrow morning. We’re going to offer them a settlement."

Arthur raised an eyebrow. "A settlement? Audrey, you have them cornered. Why would you settle?"

"Because, Arthur," Audrey smiled, a cold, beautiful expression that made her look like a queen preparing for battle, "I want them to believe they have a chance to win. I want them to bring everything they have to the table, so I can destroy their entire legal existence in a single afternoon."
