Chapter 5 - The Line We Cross

Bea didn't pull away.

In the dim, narrow corridor of the service wing, with the distant rumble of the storm outside and the low murmur of dangerous men downstairs, she took a tiny, deliberate step forward until the toe of her worn sneaker bumped against his polished leather shoe.

Dominic let out a low, ragged sound—a groan of a man whose discipline had finally cracked under unbearable weight.

His large hand slid from her cheek to the nape of her neck, his thick fingers tangling into her dark, loose curls. He pulled her up gently, bowing his head, and brought his lips down onto hers.

The kiss wasn't gentle, but it wasn't cruel either. It was possessive, deep, and wild, carrying six months of repressed desire, late-night longing, and unspoken obsession.

Bea let out a soft gasp against his mouth, her arms instinctively rising to wrap around his broad shoulders. Her hands slid over the expensive Italian wool of his suit jacket, feeling the hard, unyielding muscle beneath. He tasted of dark roast coffee, aged scotch, and the rain that hung in the air outside.

Dominic pulled her closer, his other hand coming around her waist, pressing her soft curves against his hard frame until there was no space left between them. He deepened the kiss, his tongue tracing her bottom lip, drinking her in as if he had been dying of thirst in his own home.

When he finally broke the kiss, both of them were breathing heavily, their foreheads resting together in the quiet shadows.

Dominic’s thumb brushed her lower lip, which was slightly swollen and flushed red. His dark eyes were dark with a fierce, burning heat that took her breath away.

“Tell me to stop,” he rasped, his voice rough against her skin. “Beatrice... if you want me to stop, tell me right now. Because if you don't, I am going to ruin you for any other man who ever thinks he can look at you.”

Bea looked up into his eyes, her chest heaving, her hands still clutching his shoulders. “I don't want you to stop.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened. He didn't say another word. He reached down, swept his arm beneath her knees, and lifted her effortlessly into his arms.

Bea gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck as he carried her down the private rear staircase that led directly into his master suite—a grand, secluded wing of the mansion where no servant or associate was ever permitted to enter without explicit permission.

He kicked the heavy oak door open, stepped inside, and kicked it shut behind them, throwing the iron lock into place.

The master bedroom was dark, lit only by the amber glow of the gas fireplace built into the stone wall. The room smelled of cedarwood, leather, and rain.

Dominic carried her to the massive king-sized bed, setting her down gently on the crisp white sheets. He stood over her for a moment, shedding his suit jacket and tossing it carelessly onto an armchair, followed by his tactical shoulder holster and his heavy platinum watch.

Bea sat on the edge of the bed, her heart hammering against her ribs, sudden nervousness fluttering in her stomach as she realized where they were.

Dominic noticed instantly. He dropped to his knees on the rug in front of her, bringing himself level with her waist. He reached out, taking her trembling hands in his large, warm palms.

“Look at me, Beatrice,” he commanded softly.

She looked down at him.

“Nothing happens in this room that you don't want,” Dominic said, his dark eyes steady, completely focused on her. “I am not your boss in here. I am just a man who has spent every night for six months listening to your soft footsteps in my hallways and wishing I had the right to hold you.”

Tears prickled at the corners of Bea’s eyes—not from fear, but from an overwhelming wave of emotion she had never felt in her life. No one had ever spoken to her like this. No one had ever treated her as if she were precious, soft, and worth waiting for.

“Dominic...” she whispered, slipping her hands from his grip to cup his face, her thumbs brushing over his rough stubble. “Show me.”

Dominic closed his eyes for a second, absorbing her touch like a benediction. Then he stood up, leaned over her, and pulled her into another deep, breathtaking kiss.

Slowly, reverently, he peeled off her navy cardigan, letting it drop to the floor. His large hands slid beneath her simple cotton t-shirt, his warm palms tracing the soft curve of her waist, lifting the shirt over her head.

When he saw her—sitting before him in simple black lace, her skin soft, smooth, and glowing in the warm firelight—Dominic’s breath caught in his throat.

“You are exquisite,” he whispered, his voice trembling with genuine awe. “The most beautiful thing in this entire cursed house.”

He leaned down, pressing soft, burning kisses along her jawline, down the sensitive column of her neck, and over the soft curve of her shoulder. Bea arched into his touch, letting out small, breathless sounds that drove Dominic out of his mind.

He undressed with quick, efficient movements, his powerful, tattooed body joining hers on the bed.

When he slid between her thighs, his weight pressing her into the mattress, Bea felt the absolute power of him—and the absolute restraint he used to ensure she felt safe, cherished, and completely adored.

Their joining was slow, intense, and deeply emotional.

Dominic moved inside her with steady, rhythmic thrusts, his dark eyes locked onto hers, catching every gasp, every sigh, every tear of pleasure that spilled down her cheeks. He held her hands tightly, his fingers intertwined with hers on the pillows, anchoring her to him as the waves of pleasure built and crested, shattering them both into a thousand brilliant pieces.

Afterward, as the fire crackled quietly in the hearth, Bea lay wrapped in Dominic’s arms, her head resting on his broad, bare chest. His heartbeat was steady beneath her ear, a deep, comforting rhythm that quieted every fear she had ever carried.

Dominic pulled the thick duvet over them, his large hand gently stroking her dark curls as she drifted off to sleep.

“You’re mine now, Beatrice,” he whispered into the dark room, kissing the top of her head as she snuggled closer against his side. “And God help anyone who tries to take you from me.”
