Chapter 10 - The Empire of Light

One year later.
The historic stone chapel on the shores of Lake Geneva was filled with the warm glow of candlelight and white roses.
The pews were filled not with mobsters or corrupt politicians, but with genuine friends, community leaders, former office staff, and family. Thomas Cole stood at the altar as Adrian’s best man, wearing a sharp tux with a proud smile on his face.
At the front of the chapel stood Adrian Cross. He looked strikingly handsome in a black velvet tuxedo, his eyes fixed entirely on the heavy wooden doors at the back of the room.
The organ music shifted into a breathtaking, triumphant melody.
The doors opened.
Audrey walked down the aisle on the arm of a senior community judge she had mentored under.
She was an absolute vision. Her custom off-the-shoulder lace wedding gown hugged every breathtaking curve of her body, flowing into a dramatic train that swept across the white carpet. A delicate veil framed her face, but nothing could eclipse the pure, radiant joy spilling from her hazel eyes.
She didn't hide. She didn't shrink. She walked with the queenly grace of a woman who knew her worth, who occupied her space with pride, confidence, and unshakeable love.
When she reached the altar, Adrian took her hand. His fingers trembled slightly as he looked at her, his eyes filled with tears of pure devotion.
“You are breathtaking,” Adrian whispered.
“You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Cross,” Audrey whispered back, a sparkling mischievous smile gracing her lips.
The minister’s voice echoed softly through the chapel, guiding them through vows that were built not on corporate contracts or criminal allegiances, but on truth, sacrifice, and eternal devotion.
“Do you, Adrian Cross, take Audrey Miller to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”
Adrian looked into Audrey’s eyes, his voice steady, deep, and ringing with absolute certainty throughout the sanctuary.
“I do.”
“And do you, Audrey Miller, take Adrian Cross to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
Audrey squeezed his hands, her heart overflowing with a peace she had waited her entire life to feel.
“I do.”
“By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister declared with a warm smile. “Mr. Cross, you may kiss your bride.”
Adrian didn't wait. He pulled Audrey into his arms, bringing her close against his heart, and pressed his lips to hers in a passionate, lingering kiss that brought the entire congregation to their feet in a roaring ovation!
Hand in hand, Adrian and Audrey walked out of the chapel into the bright, warm afternoon sun.
Outside, the lake shimmered under a clear blue sky.
Adrian pulled her close to his side, looking down at his wife, at the gold band shining on her finger, and at the bright, boundless future laying out before them.
The old empire was gone, reduced to ash and forgotten stories.
May you like
In its place stood a life built on truth, a love forged in fire, and an empire of light that nothing in this world could ever tear down.
