Chapter 5: The Boardroom Coup

The conference room on the 50th floor of the Valmont Tower was suffocatingly tense. The large mahogany table was surrounded by the fifteen members of the board of directors, with Richard Valmont sitting at the head, a smug, victorious smile plastered across his face.

"It is now 10:15 AM," Richard announced, looking at his gold Rolex. "The CEO is a no-show. This further proves his total inability to fulfill his corporate duties. I call this extraordinary session to order. We will now vote on the immediate invocation of the incapacity clause."

"I wouldn't call the vote just yet, Richard," a commanding voice echoed from the doorway.

The double doors swung open, and Nicholas Valmont walked into the room.

The entire board gasped. Nicholas looked immaculate. He wore a sharp, bespoke navy three-piece suit. His hair was perfectly styled, his jaw clean-shaven, and his stride was wide and confident. But the most shocking sight was the woman walking right beside him, dressed in a professional cream-colored blazer and trousers, carrying a sleek leather briefcase. It was Iris.

Nicholas walked to the head of the table, standing directly opposite his uncle. He didn't shake hands; he simply stared Richard down with cold, calculating eyes.

"Nicholas," Richard stammered, quickly recovering his composure. "You're late. And who is this? This is a closed board meeting. Staff are not permitted."

"This is Iris Vance," Nicholas said clearly, his voice booming with the authority that had built the company. "She is my newly appointed Chief of Staff and personal proxy. She stays."

Iris took her place behind Nicholas, her posture straight, her face an unreadable mask of absolute confidence. She had spent the early morning hours helping Nicholas practice his movements, stabilizing his posture, and preparing the documents that would destroy Richard's coup.

"This is ridiculous!" Richard sneered, slamming his hand on the table. "You can't just appoint a maid to a corporate executive position! Nicholas, look at you. Your hand is hidden in your pocket because you can't stop shaking. We know about your medical diagnosis. You are unfit to lead!"

A murmur of unease rippled through the board members. Nicholas calmly pulled his right hand out of his pocket. It was steady. Iris had helped him coordinate the timing of his fast-acting neurological medication perfectly, giving him a three-hour window of total physical stability.

"My health is my private business, Richard," Nicholas said smoothly, leaning forward and resting his perfectly steady hands on the table. "But since you brought up fitness to lead, let's talk about yours. Iris, if you please."

Iris stepped forward, opening her briefcase and sliding a stack of thick, bound documents across the table to each board member.

"Over the past six months," Iris announced, her voice clear and resonant, "Vice-Chairman Richard Valmont has been leaking internal financial data to Vance Capital to artificially depress Valmont Enterprise stock prices, facilitating a hostile takeover. These documents include bank statements, encrypted emails, and wire transfers tracing back to Richard's offshore accounts."

Richard’s face drained of color, turning a ghostly shade of gray. "This... this is fabricated! It’s a lie!"

"The evidence was gathered by a private forensic auditing firm that I hired weeks ago," Nicholas said coldly. "The FBI has already been notified and is currently waiting downstairs to escort you out of the building."

The board members immediately erupted into chaos, turning on Richard with fierce anger. The votes shifted instantly. Within ten minutes, Richard was unanimously stripped of his title, terminated from the company, and led away in handcuffs by federal agents.

As the doors closed behind Richard, Nicholas stood at the head of the table, looking out over the remaining board members. The effort had cost him dearly; Iris could see the faint tightness around his jaw, a sign that the medication was starting to wear off.

"The company is secure," Nicholas announced. "But I believe in transparency. I do have a neurological condition. However, I am under the care of the world's leading specialists. With Ms. Vance as my Chief of Staff, operations will continue without disruption. If any of you object, you are welcome to sell your shares now."

Silence filled the room. No one moved. No one dared challenge the king who had just executed a flawless coup.

"Good," Nicholas said. "Meeting adjourned."
