Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Love

That evening, the sun set over Oak Park in a breathtaking tapestry of gold, violet, and deep crimson.
A large family dinner was laid out on the outdoor patio dining table. Mrs. Gable had cooked a feast of traditional Italian pasta, roasted vegetables, and fresh garlic bread. Maya Chen sat at the table, laughing with Sal over stories of old Chicago, while Levi carved the roast.
Natalie sat at the head of the table, wearing a tiny silver necklace Levi had given her earlier that afternoon—a small heart medallion with her initials engraved on the back: N.F.M. — Natalie Foster Marconi.
After dinner, as the stars began to twinkle in the clear night sky, the guests said their goodbyes, leaving Levi, Claire, and Natalie alone on the porch.
Natalie sat on Levi’s lap, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart.
"Mr. Levi?" she asked softly, her eyes heavy with sleep.
"Yes, sweetheart?" Levi replied, stroking her hair gently.
"Does your heart still hurt?"
Levi looked down at the little girl who had saved his life from a bottle of refined digitoxin, the little girl who had seen through the terrifying reputation of the Iron Wolf and found the human soul beneath.
He looked across at Claire, who was leaning against the porch railing, looking at him with eyes full of infinite love and devotion.
"No, Natalie," Levi whispered, his voice thick with profound emotion. "My heart doesn't hurt at all anymore."
"Why?" she murmured, closing her eyes.
Levi wrapped his arm tighter around her, pulling Claire into his side with his other hand.
"Because you fixed it," Levi said softly into the quiet spring night. "You fixed it completely."
Overhead, the stars shone bright over Oak Park.

The blood, the poison, and the shadows of the past had vanished forever. In their place stood a family built not by violence, but by a little girl's courage, a mother's devotion, and a man's promise to protect the innocent for the rest of his days.
The Iron Wolf had finally found his peace.
