Chapter 10 - The Real Promise

One year later. Autumn 2026.

The sun was setting over Central Park, casting a brilliant orange and gold light across the private terrace of the Moretti Estate.

A small gathering of friends and family stood around the flower-draped gazebo. Emma and Mark were there, along with several of Dominic’s closest business associates who had grown to respect and admire the quiet grace I brought into Dominic’s life.

Lily stood near the front, wearing a miniature white flower-girl dress, proudly holding a velvet ring pillow.

I stood in front of the minister wearing a sleek, off-the-shoulder ivory gown, my hand held tightly in Dominic’s. He looked impossibly handsome in a midnight-blue tuxedo, his eyes shining with a deep, radiant love that was visible to every person present.

"Sophia," Dominic said as we exchanged our vows, his voice echoing softly over the terrace. "A year ago, I made a promise to your mother that I would protect you and keep you safe. Today, I make a promise to you—that I will love you, honor you, and walk beside you as your equal for the rest of my life."

Tears of pure happiness spilled down my cheeks as I slipped a simple platinum band onto his finger.

"Dominic," I replied, my voice strong and unwavering. "You gave me hope when I thought I had none left. You showed my daughter what a real father looks like, and you showed me that I am worthy of being loved."

"I pronounce you husband and wife," the minister smiled. "You may kiss the bride."

Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me gently as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that drew wild cheers and applause from our guests.

When he lifted me back up, Lily rushed forward, wrapping her small arms around both of our legs.

"Daddy!" she squealed happily. "Does this mean Mommy doesn't need a boyfriend anymore?"

Dominic laughed—a rich, booming sound that filled the evening air—and scooped Lily up into his left arm while holding me tightly against his right side.

He looked down at his daughter, then at me, his eyes filled with absolute contentment.

"No, sweetheart," Dominic smiled, kissing Lily’s cheek before turning to press a soft kiss against my forehead. "Mommy doesn't need a boyfriend anymore. She has a husband."

We stood together on the terrace, overlooking the glowing skyline of New York City, surrounded by love, family, and the peaceful assurance of a forever we had built together.
