CHAPTER 1: THE SLAP THAT SHATTERED THE MUSIC

The cake table looked like a postcard.
White roses. Gold trim. Crystal tiers rising like a sculpture.
Everyone was smiling.
Everyone except Sofiaâafter the moment that changed everything.
It happened too fast for the cameras to understand it.
One second, she was laughing.
Playfully dragging a bit of frosting across Danielâs cheek, teasing him like any bride might do on a perfect night.
The guests chuckled.
Even Daniel smiled.
At first.
Then something in his expression shifted.
Not joy.
Not embarrassment.
Something darker.
The smile disappeared like it had never existed.
âDonât,â he said sharply.
Sofia froze for half a second.
Confused.
Still smiling softly, she whispered, âItâs just frostingâŠâ
That was all it took.
Danielâs hand moved.
A sharp sound cracked through the reception hall.
Not music.
Not laughter.
Silence.
Sofia staggered back, her hand rising instinctively to her cheek.
The frosting smeared.
But so did something else.
Shock.
The guests didnât react immediately.
Because the brain refuses to accept what doesnât fit the picture.
A groom doesnât hit his bride at a wedding.
Not here.
Not like this.
Sofiaâs mother stood halfway out of her chair.
A glass slipped from someoneâs hand.
And Daniel⊠he was breathing heavily now, as if she had done something wrong.
âShe never listens,â he said coldly.
Like that explained everything.
Like that justified anything.
Sofia didnât cry.
Not yet.
She slowly turned her head back toward him.
And thatâs when something in her changed.
Not fear.
May you like
Not confusion.
Clarity.
