Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Tomorrow

The summer sun warmed the stone terrace of our villa in St. Moritz, the light reflecting off the crystal-clear waters of the alpine lake below.

Sophia sat at the grand piano in the living room, her fingers flying across the keys as she played a beautiful, complex sonata by Mozart. Chloe sat beside her, turning the pages of the sheet music with a careful, sisterly devotion.

I stood in the doorway, a soft linen shirt draped over my shoulders, watching them.

Beside me stood Thomas, a warm, intelligent man with kind blue eyes and a gentle laugh, who had spent the last six months working as our family’s primary architectural designer for the new resort project in Bavaria. He had become a constant, supportive presence in our lives—a man who valued my intelligence, respected my boundaries, and loved my daughters as if they were his own.

"They're playing beautifully today, Catherine," Thomas whispered, his hand gently sliding down to clasp mine. His fingers were warm, strong, and reassuring.

"They are," I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder. "They’ve finally found their rhythm."

The music reached a beautiful, rising crescendo, the notes echoing through the high-ceilinged villa, carrying the promise of a future that was entirely ours.

As the final chord faded into the warm alpine air, Sophia and Chloe turned to look at us, their faces bright with smiles, their eyes filled with the light of a new, unbroken tomorrow.

The past was behind us, the battle was won, and the Von Bernberg legacy was no longer a promise of wealth or power. It was a legacy of survival, of dignity, and of a love that would last for generations to come.
