Chapter 7 - The Healing Hearth

The aftermath of Savannah’s intrusion brought a final, definitive closure to the ghosts of the past. By the end of the week, Caleb’s lawyer had secured a formal restraining order backed by years of documented harassment and the new trespassing incident. Winter arrived in the city, frosting the windows of Lauren’s living room while a fire crackled brightly in the hearth. Mia was fast asleep upstairs in her bed, surrounded by storybooks and stuffed animals.
Lauren sat on the living room rug, leaning back against the sofa, holding a mug of tea. Caleb sat beside her, his arm resting lightly around her shoulders.
“She called me Daddy the other night,” Caleb said softly into the quiet room, a small, wonder-filled smile touching his lips. “I still can’t believe it.”
Lauren looked up at him, the last traces of bitterness from five years ago completely dissolved. What remained was something older, wiser, and infinitely stronger.

“I’ll never stop fighting for you two,” Caleb promised, pressing a gentle kiss into her hair.
