Chapter 11 - A New Dawn

Two years later.
The Atlantic Ocean crashed softly against the shore of a beautiful, secluded beach in North Carolina. A small, cozy cottage sat nestled in the dunes, its windows glowing with a warm, inviting light.
I sat on the wooden porch, a mug of hot coffee in my hands. My hair had grown out into a neat, stylish bob, and the scar on my jaw had faded into a faint, silver line—no longer a mark of pain, but a badge of honor.
Inside the house, the sound of laughter drifted out. A group of young men and women—veterans who had suffered from severe physical and emotional trauma—were sitting around a large dining table, sharing a meal and planning their upcoming wilderness rehabilitation trek.
Using the whistleblower bounty I had received from the government’s seizure of Vale Enterprises’ illegal assets, I had bought this land. I didn't start a fraudulent memorial foundation. I built a real sanctuary. The Vanguard Healing Center. A place where soldiers who had survived the dark could learn to live in the light again.
A handsome man with kind eyes and a prosthetic right leg walked out onto the porch, handing me a woolen blanket. It was Marcus, a former Army Ranger who had become my co-director, and over the last year, the man who had helped me heal my own broken heart.
"The next group arrives on Monday, Major," Marcus smiled, sitting down beside me on the wooden bench. "Are you ready?"
I looked out at the vast, endless ocean. The water was calm, reflecting the deep blue of the evening sky. The ghosts of my past were finally at peace, my enemies were behind bars, and for the first time in my entire life, I knew exactly who I was and where I belonged.

I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder.
"Yeah," I whispered, taking a deep, clean breath of the sea air. "I'm finally home."
