CHAPTER 3 (FINAL) — THE TRUTH BENEATH THE STAR

The Harbor Crew didn’t come through the front.

They came through the back.

Seven men.

Young.

Armed.

Angry.

But they weren’t prepared for Dominic Moretti.

Or for what waited inside Hart Flowers.

The fight lasted less than three minutes.

Not because Dominic was faster.

But because he was calmer.

Violence, for him, was not chaos.

It was structure.

Order imposed on disorder.

When it ended, the Harbor Crew was gone.

Not all of them dead.

But all of them broken enough to never return.

Silence fell again.

Grace sat behind the counter, holding Lily tightly.

Dominic stood in the center of the destroyed shop.

Breathing slowly.

Then he looked at Grace.

“You’re not a Hart,” he said.

Her eyes widened.

“What?”

He stepped closer.

“You were never adopted.”

Grace shook her head.

“That’s not true.”

Dominic held up a file one of his men had just delivered.

Stamped.

Official.

Boston Medical Archives.

He opened it.

And read aloud.

“Child delivered: twin birth.”

Silence.

Grace froze.

Lily lifted her head.

Dominic continued.

“Second child declared deceased at birth.”

He looked up.

But his eyes were different now.

Stranger.

Harsher.

Certain.

“Except there was no death certificate.”

Grace’s hands trembled.

“No…”

Dominic turned the page.

“Because the child was removed.”

He looked directly at Grace.

“And sold.”

The world collapsed.

Grace whispered:

“That’s not possible…”

But Dominic wasn’t finished.

He looked at the final line.

And everything changed again.

“Name of surviving twin: Lily Hart.”

Grace froze completely.

“What?”

Dominic closed the file slowly.

“Lily isn’t just your daughter,” he said quietly.

“She’s your sister.”

A sound broke out of Grace’s throat.

“No… that’s— that’s impossible—”

But Lily reached for her again.

Confused.

Trusting.

“Mama?”

Grace pulled her close instantly.

“No matter what,” she whispered, shaking, “you are my baby.”

Dominic stepped back slowly.

For the first time—

he looked shaken.

Because the locket wasn’t just a memory.

It was proof.

That Rose Vale had not died in the fire.

She had been moved.

Hidden.

And her children—

had been stolen.

Outside, sirens approached.

More enemies coming.

But Dominic didn’t hear them anymore.

He was staring at the locket in his hand.

The star engraving catching the light.

And for the first time in decades—

Dominic Moretti understood something terrifying.

This wasn’t just a war.

It was a correction.

A truth finally resurfacing.

He looked at Grace.

At Lily.

At the broken shop.

And made a decision that would rewrite everything.

“We end this,” he said quietly.

Grace met his eyes.

“How?”

Dominic tightened his grip on the locket.

“By finding who buried Rose alive.”

He paused.

“And why they kept one child… and sold the other.”

Lily held Grace tighter.

Grace held her back.

And for the first time—

all three of them stood on the same side of the truth.
