Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Promise

Two months later.

The summer sea breeze swept across the lawn of Saint Joseph's Chapel overlooking Boston Harbor—the very same harbor where dark shadows had once claimed so much pain, now transformed into a place of peace and light.

The chapel grounds were adorned with white lilies, silver ribbons, and soft violin music that floated on the ocean air.

Sal Giordano stood near the front entrance, wearing his finest charcoal tuxedo, looking prouder and younger than he had in twenty years. Beside him stood Gideon Cross, fully recovered from his injuries, keeping a watchful, respectful eye on the guests.

Inside the bride's room, Corsica stood before a full-length mirror, flanked by two dedicated attendants.

Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of ivory lace and soft tulle, tailored elegantly to accommodate her full, late-stage pregnancy. A delicate veil fell softly over her shoulders, and her dark hair was styled in intricate curls adorned with tiny silver pearls. She did not wear her dark glasses today; her milky, hazel eyes were open, bright, and filled with radiant peace.

The door opened, and little Letty and Ros walked in, dressed in matching pink flower-girl dresses, carrying baskets of white rose petals.

"You look like an angel, Auntie Corsica," Ros said softly, her small hands smoothing the hem of Corsica's lace veil.

"Are you ready to marry Daddy?" Letty asked, bouncing on her heels.

"I’ve been ready since the day I walked into Giordano's," Corsica smiled, holding out her hands for the girls to lead her down the corridor.

When the heavy wooden doors of the chapel swung open, the entire congregation stood up in silent reverence.

Sal Giordano stepped forward, offering his arm to his long-lost daughter. "You carry your mother’s grace today, my dear," Sal whispered, his voice trembling with pride. "And your sister’s blessing."

"Thank you, Papa," Corsica murmured, leaning lightly on his arm as her white cane guided her steps along the carpeted aisle, with Nero walking solemnly right behind her wearing a silk white bow around his massive collar.

At the altar stood Paxton Marchetti.

He looked breathtaking in a tailored black tuxedo, his eyes burning with tears of absolute devotion as he watched his bride walk toward him. To his right, the local priest waited with an open book of blessings.

When Sal placed Corsica’s hand into Paxton’s broad, warm palm, Paxton leaned down and whispered close to her ear, "You take my breath away, Corsica."

"You're not so bad yourself, Mr. Marchetti," she teased softly, her heart soaring.

The ceremony was intimate, powerful, and sacred.

When the time came for the vows, Paxton took both of her hands in his, his thumbs caressing her knuckles.

"Corsica," Paxton said, his voice ringing clearly through the stone arches of the chapel. "I spent three years living in a dark winter, believing that love was a gift I would never hold again. You walked into my life with a broken watch and a brave heart, and you brought light back into my home, my daughters, and my soul. I promise to honor you, protect you, and love you through every storm and every sunrise for the rest of my days."

Corsica wiped a tear from her cheek, her smile shining like the morning sun.

"Paxton," she replied, her voice soft yet unwavering. "I spent my life navigating a world of darkness, learning to trust only the vibrations beneath my feet. But the moment I heard your voice, I knew I was safe. You gave me a family, a home, and a love that healed every scar I carried. I give you my heart, my life, and my promise, forever."

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced, smiling warmly at the couple, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Paxton, you may kiss your bride."

Paxton didn't wait a second. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her gently against his chest, and lifted her slightly as he kissed her with a deep, passionate, and unquestionable love that sealed their lives together forever.

The congregation erupted into warm applause as the chapel bells began to ring wildly across the harbor.

Six weeks later, on a peaceful Sunday afternoon at Marchetti Manor, the sound of a newborn baby’s cry echoed through the sunlit master bedroom.

Paxton sat on the edge of the large bed, holding a tiny, beautiful baby girl wrapped in a soft pink blanket. The baby had a tuft of dark hair and striking, dark eyes that looked around the room with calm curiosity.

Corsica lay against the plush white pillows, tired but radiant, a look of profound peace resting on her face.

Ros and Letty sat on the foot of the bed, leaning in close to look at their baby sister.

"What's her name, Daddy?" Letty whispered in awe, reaching out a tiny finger for the baby to grasp.

Paxton looked up at Corsica, his hazel eyes filled with tears of pure, unadulterated joy. He gently leaned over and placed the newborn into Corsica’s waiting arms.

"Her name is Celeste," Corsica whispered, kissing the baby’s forehead, tears of happiness slipping down her cheeks. "Celeste Giordano Marchetti."

Ros smiled softly, wrapping her arm around Letty’s shoulder. "Mommy’s name."

"And Mommy’s love," Paxton murmured, wrapping his arms around his wife and all three of his daughters, pulling his complete, unbroken family into a warm, eternal embrace.

Outside the window, the sun shone brightly over Boston, casting golden light across the estate, where the dark shadows of the past were finally, forever gone.
