Chapter 10 - The Sound of the World

One year later.
The summer sun beamed down over the golden sands of Cape Cod, washing the ocean waves in bright, brilliant light. The tide rolled in softly, leaving white foam along the wet shoreline.
On the porch of a stunning beach house overlooking the Atlantic sat Dr. Will Anderson, wearing a linen shirt, a soft smile on his face as he held a mug of morning coffee.
Beside him, sitting on the wooden steps, was Emma.
She wasn't in a wheelchair. She wasn't holding crutches. She was wearing a light blue summer dress, her bare feet dipping into the soft sand at the base of the porch steps. She still walked with a slight, delicate limp, but the neural pathways had connected. The detour had been built.
Down near the water’s edge stood Noah.
He was ten years old now, tall, healthy, and athletic, wearing board shorts and a bright T-shirt. His amber eyes were bright with laughter as he chased a flock of seagulls along the wet sand.
"Noah! Catch!" Emma shouted, standing up on her own two feet, picking up a brightly colored beach ball and throwing it toward him.
Noah turned, caught the ball effortlessly, and tossed it high into the blue sky.
He ran back toward the porch, his bare feet splashing through the shallow tide, his laughter mixing with the sound of the ocean wind.
He sprinted up the wooden steps, sitting down beside Emma, resting his arm casually around his little sister’s shoulder.
"You threw that ball like a pigeon," Noah teased, crossing his eyes and puffing out his cheeks.
"I did not!" Emma giggled, shoving him playfully. "Show me the balloon noise!"
Noah looked up at Will, who was watching them with eyes full of warmth and absolute gratitude.
Noah smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that reached all the way to his heart. He looked back at Emma, took a deep breath, and made the smallest sound in the world—a quiet, hilarious squeak like a wounded balloon.
Emma burst into a wild, bright, uncontrollable laugh—a sound that echoed across the ocean waves, free and pure.

And this time, Will didn't just listen from a distance.
He set his coffee down, walked down the steps, and sat beside his children in the warm sand, joining in their laughter as the ocean tide rolled gently onto the shore, leaving the dark shadows of the past behind them forever.
