Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Promise

One year later.

The autumn air in the Napa Valley was crisp, sweet, and filled with the rich scent of ripe grapes and golden oak leaves.

At the center of a private, five-hundred-acre estate nestled among the rolling hills stood a newly restored stone villa. It was a place of breathtaking beauty—surrounded by olive groves, blooming lavender fields, and wide stone terraces overlooking the peaceful valley below.

It was a Saturday afternoon.

A small, intimate gathering of forty guests sat in rows of white wooden chairs set upon the emerald lawn.

At the front of the floral arch, wrapped in white roses and eucalyptus leaves, stood Roman Bianchi.

He was the picture of regal elegance in a tailored dark velvet tuxedo, his hands clasped in front of him, his dark eyes fixed entirely on the wooden doors of the stone villa at the end of the long aisle.

Beside him stood Frank Moretti as his best man, alongside Daniel and Captain Hayes, all wearing matching formal attire with quiet, proud smiles.

In the front row sat several senior doctors from UCSF, representatives from the city's community trusts, and Leo and Viktor, who sat proudly in sharp black suits, keeping a discreet, watchful eye over the peaceful estate.

The acoustic guitar began to play a soft, breathtaking melody.

The heavy oak doors of the villa opened.

I stepped onto the green aisle, arm in arm with Professor Vance, who had proudly agreed to walk me down the aisle.

My wedding gown was a masterpiece of classic Italian design—a long, flowing dress of ivory lace and silk with a cathedral-length veil that trailed behind me like a cloud of morning mist. In my hands, I held a simple bouquet of yellow daisies and white roses—a subtle, beautiful homage to the blanket that had covered Roman on the worst night of his life.

As I walked down the aisle, my eyes locked onto Roman.

The powerful, terrifying syndicate king who had commanded respect and fear across the entire West Coast had tears glistening in his dark eyes as he watched me approach.

Professor Vance gently placed my hand into Roman’s.

Roman took my hand, his fingers trembling slightly with intense emotion as he lifted my veil, tucking it gently behind my ears. His dark eyes swept over my face with an overwhelming, boundless love that made my heart overflow.

"You are breathtaking, Dr. Bianchi," Roman whispered softly, his voice thick with emotion.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Bianchi," I whispered back with a radiant, joyful smile.

The minister, an elderly man with a kind, resonant voice, smiled warmly at us before turning to the gathered guests.

"We are gathered here today in the presence of loved ones and friends," the minister began, "to unite Roman and Nora in the sacred bond of marriage. Their journey to this day was not born in quiet waters, but forged in the fires of courage, trust, and absolute devotion."

He looked at Roman. "Roman, do you take Nora to be your wedded wife, to love her, honor her, protect her, and cherish her in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, so long as you both shall live?"

Roman looked deep into my eyes, his grip on my hands solid, warm, and unbreakable.

"I do," Roman declared, his strong, clear voice carrying effortlessly across the quiet valley. "With every breath in my body, with every drop of blood in my heart... I do."

The minister turned to me. "Nora, do you take Roman to be your wedded husband, to love him, honor him, stand beside him, and cherish him in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, so long as you both shall live?"

I felt a tear of pure, overwhelming happiness slip down my cheek as I looked into the eyes of the man who had protected my life, restored my dreams, and given me a home.

"I do," I whispered, my voice rich with emotion. "I do."

"Then by the power vested in me," the minister announced with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Roman, you may kiss your bride!"

Roman did not hesitate.

He wrapped his broad arms around my waist, pulling me tight against his chest, and leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, passionate, intoxicating kiss that set my soul on fire.

The entire valley erupted into joyous, thunderous applause. Guests stood from their seats, cheering and tossing white rose petals into the warm autumn air.

Roman lifted me in his arms, spinning me once on the green lawn as I laughed with pure, unadulterated joy, before setting me back down on my feet.

We turned to face our friends, our family, and our new world, walking hand in hand down the rose-covered aisle toward the stone villa.

The shadows of San Francisco, the knife wounds, the traitors, and the debts were gone forever—replaced by a life of endless light, unbreakable love, and a peace that would last for all the days of our lives.
