Chapter 16 - The Storm Over the Atlantic

By February, the legal battles that had plagued the merger were completely dismantled. Marcus Vance and Tyler Sterling were facing federal racketeering charges, and the city of Boston officially recognized the Moretti-Hayes Global Logistics Corporation as the sole authority over Pier 4 and the expanded harbor terminals.
To celebrate the official unification of the company—and to take the honeymoon they had been denied—Vincent booked a private suite aboard the SS Queen of the Atlantic, an ultra-luxury ocean liner owned by Hayes International making its maiden voyage from Boston to London.
The sky was a deep navy blue as the massive ship glided out of Boston Harbor, its gleaming white hull cutting through the cold Atlantic waters.
Madison stood on the private balcony of their penthouse suite, wrapped in a plush white bathrobe, holding a glass of sparkling champagne. The lights of the Boston skyline were fading into the horizon behind them, replaced by the vast, endless dark of the ocean.
Vincent stepped out onto the balcony behind her, sliding his arms around her waist and pulling her back flush against his chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, his warm breath fanning across her neck.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Moretti?" he asked gently.
"I was thinking about how different this view looks now," Madison murmured, leaning back against his solid warmth. "Two months ago, I was terrified of the ocean. My father used to tell me that the shipping industry was a monster that swallowed everything you loved. He lost his health to it. My grandfather lost his peace."
Vincent kissed the sensitive spot beneath her ear, making her shiver with delight. "And now?"
"Now, I see an empire," Madison turned in his arms, smiling up at him, wrapping her hands around his lapels. "Our empire. Built on truth instead of secrets."
Vincent smiled, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against her lips. "Speaking of our empire... I received a message from the bridge five minutes ago."
Madison raised an eyebrow. "Is there work on our honeymoon, Mr. Moretti?"
"Not work," Vincent corrected, his eyes dark with affectionate mischief. "A surprise. Put on something warm. I want to show you something at the bow of the ship."
Twenty minutes later, Madison and Vincent stood at the restricted upper deck near the bow of the massive vessel. The wind was crisp and fresh, carrying the clean scent of the open ocean.
The captain of the ship stood near the helm control, nodding respectfully as Vincent approached with his wife.
"Mrs. Moretti," the captain bowed his head. "If you would do us the honor?"
The captain gestured toward a illuminated bronze plaque mounted on the bridge bulkhead.
Madison stepped closer, her eyes widening as she read the engraved letters gleaming under the deck lights:
THE MADISON MORETTI Flagship Vessel of Moretti-Hayes Global Logistics "Unbound by Storms, United by Love."
Madison turned to Vincent, her hand covering her mouth, tears of joy filling her eyes. "Vincent... you renamed the flagship after me?"
"I didn't just rename it, Madison," Vincent said, walking over to her and taking both her hands in his. "I transferred seventy percent of the ship's physical equity directly into your name. This ship... this entire fleet... belongs to you. You are no longer just an heir to your grandfather's legacy, Madison. You are the commander of it."
Madison threw her arms around his neck, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated happiness as Vincent lifted her off her feet, spinning her around on the starlit deck while the ship’s foghorn blew a grand, resonant blast across the vast Atlantic Ocean.
For three days, the transatlantic voyage was a dream of pure romance. They dined on private balconies under the stars, walked through empty art galleries at midnight, and lost themselves in each other in the massive king bed of their suite, making love with a fierce, tender passion that seemed to grow stronger with every passing hour.
However, on the fourth night of the crossing, three hundred miles off the coast of Ireland, the weather took a violent, unexpected turn.
The ship's automated warning systems began to chime in the master bedroom at three in the morning.
Vincent sat up instantly, his instincts razor-sharp as he grabbed his shirt.
Madison sat up beside him, pulling the duvet to her chest as the massive ship heaved violently to the left, a loud groan echoing through the steel hull.
"Vincent?" she asked, her voice tight with sudden apprehension. "What's happening?"
May you like
Vincent walked over to the bridge intercom mounted near the door and pressed the line. "Captain, this is Moretti. What’s our status?"
The captain’s voice came through the speaker, distorted by static and wind noise. "Mr. Moretti! We’ve hit a rogue Category 4 winter cyclone! The wind speeds just jumped to eighty knots, and we have a mechanical failure in the starboard stabilizer!"
