Chapter 9 - The Legacy Reclaimed

One year later.
The city of Valberg was celebrating the annual Sovereign Heritage Festival. White and gold banners fluttered from every marble bridge, and traditional music filled the warm summer air.
In the private courtyard of the Vance Sovereign Estate, a small, intimate gathering of forty close friends and family had assembled under the canopy of ancient oak trees.
There were no society reporters. There were no five-hundred-guest business lists. There were no cameras documenting corporate strategic alliances.
My father sat in the front row, wearing a refined black suit, smiling through tears of joy as he watched me walk down the carpeted garden aisle.
I wore a simple, breathtaking ivory lace gown—restored from my mother's original royal wedding dress—holding a bouquet of fresh white lilies and wild mountain lavender.
Standing at the end of the aisle beneath a simple wooden arch covered in white roses stood Alexander. His face lit up with absolute, undeniable love the moment his eyes met mine.
Beside him stood King Gustav IV, who had offered to officiate the private ceremony himself, completely setting aside royal protocol for his beloved niece.
When my father placed my hand in Alexander’s, Alexander squeezed my fingers gently, leaning in to whisper, "You are breathtaking, my love."
"I am happy," I whispered back.
King Gustav stepped forward, his voice warm and deep as he spoke to the small gathering.
"True legacy," the King said, looking at us both, "is not measured by the height of one's walls, the size of one's bank accounts, or the titles one inherits. It is measured by the strength of one's character when the storm arrives, and the capacity to love when the world is cold."
He looked at Alexander and me.
"Alexander and Emma... do you promise to hold each other in truth, to protect one another in hardship, and to walk together as equals for all the days of your lives?"
"I do," Alexander said, his voice strong and clear.
"I do," I said, looking into his eyes with absolute certainty.

The King smiled brightly. "Then by the authority vested in me by the Sovereign Realm of Valberg, I pronounce you husband and wife."
The small crowd burst into joyful applause. Alexander pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a deep, passionate warmth that filled my soul with light.
