Chapter 10 - The True Light

One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Moretti estate was filled with music, laughter, and the warmth of a hundred glittering candles. It wasn't a corporate gathering or a dark syndicate meeting; it was a celebration of life. The Moretti Foundation had just launched a city-wide initiative to fund shelters and legal protection for victims of domestic abuse, an organization funded entirely by the reclaimed Vale estate.
I stood near the grand glass doors leading to the garden, wearing a beautiful flowing gown of midnight blue. My skin was radiant, the ugly bruises from the past long gone, replaced by the healthy glow of a woman who was deeply loved and entirely secure.
Marco Bellini walked past, raised a glass of champagne to me with a warm, respectful smile, before returning to the crowd. He had become a loyal brother to me over the year, ensuring that my safety was never compromised.
A warm hand slid down my arm, his long fingers interlacing with mine. I didn't need to look up to know who it was. The scent of rain, expensive cedarwood, and leather always preceded him.
"You look breathtaking, Elena," Luca whispered, pulling me gently out onto the terrace away from the noise of the party. The summer air was warm, a soft breeze rustling the leaves of the olive trees.
"I was just remembering the first time you found me in the kitchen," I said, leaning my head against his shoulder. "I was so terrified of you. I thought you were going to bury me beside my mother."
Luca stopped walking, turning me to face him beneath the moonlight. His grey eyes were filled with an emotion so deep it made my heart ache with happiness. He reached down into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a stunning, flawless emerald ring surrounded by delicate diamond wings.
"I spent years living in the dark, Elena," Luca said, his voice raw and filled with devotion. "I thought my purpose was just to fight the monsters of this city until there was nothing left of me. But the night you walked into my kitchen, you showed me how to pray again. You are my sanctuary. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, officially and forever?"
Tears of pure joy blurred my vision as I looked at the ring, then up at the man who had rewritten my destiny. "Yes, Luca. A thousand times yes."
He slid the ring onto my finger, his kiss warm, deep, and filled with a lifetime of promises.

I looked past his shoulder at the archangel statue gleaming in the garden. The keys my mother gave me hadn't just opened a room beneath the stone; they had unlocked the prison of my past. Dante had thought his cruelty would break me, but in his arrogance, he had delivered me directly to the one man strong enough to cherish my scars and build a kingdom from my survival.
The nightmare was finally over, and the dawn had finally arrived.
