Chapter 9 - The Swiss Wedding

One month later.
The historic Château de Chillon on the shores of Lake Geneva was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late spring sunset.
The ancient stone courtyard was decorated with thousands of white orchids—the same flowers Claire had once arranged in her sunroom in Lake Forest, now blooming freely under the clear Swiss sky.
A hundred guests—titan financiers from London, Zurich, and New York, alongside old friends from Chicago who had chosen honor over loyalty to the Caldwells—sat along the velvet-covered aisles.
At the front of the courtyard stood Julian Vance, looking striking in a black bespoke tuxedo, his green eyes filled with an undeniable, fierce devotion as he watched the aisle.
The string quartet began to play a soft, breathtaking arrangement of Bach.
The iron gates opened.
Claire walked down the stone aisle on the arm of her father, Arthur Bennett.
She was breathtaking. Her gown was a masterpiece of simple, elegant ivory silk, cascading softly around her as she walked. Around her neck hung a simple diamond pendant—not an inheritance from a cold mother-in-law, but a gift she had purchased for herself to celebrate her independence.
She looked radiant. Her dark eyes were bright, her smile warm, powerful, and completely peaceful.
Arthur looked down at his daughter as they reached the altar, his eyes glistening with proud tears.
"I love you, Claire," Arthur whispered, kissing her hand before placing it into Julian’s palm. "You made your mother proud today."
Julian took Claire’s hand, resting his fingers over hers with a deep, reverent warmth.
"You look like a dream, Claire," Julian whispered softly.
"I'm not a dream, Julian," Claire smiled, looking up into his warm green eyes. "I'm finally awake."
The officiant stepped forward, his voice echoing over the quiet lake.
"We are gathered here today to unite two sovereign souls in mutual respect, equal partnership, and unyielding love..."

As the vows were spoken, a soft breeze blew across Lake Geneva, carrying the sweet scent of white orchids across the ancient stone courtyard.
When Julian leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, the guests erupted into warm, joyful applause, their cheers echoing off the mountains toward the bright, open sky.
