Chapter 9 - The Horizon

Back in Manhattan, the evening sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of deep amber, violet, and gold.
I stood on the private terrace of my new apartment—a sleek, modern penthouse overlooking the East River, purchased entirely with my own patents and earned income. There was no mortgage, no debt, and no one whispering insults in the hallways.
Liam stepped out onto the terrace, holding two glasses of sparkling mineral water, and handed one to me.
“To the FDA approval,” Liam said, clinking his glass against mine. “And to the new monograph.”
“To new beginnings,” I replied, taking a sip and looking out at the glittering lights of the city.
The wind caught my hair, warm and sweet with the promise of summer. My phone rested silently on the table inside, its screen dark. I didn't check it. I didn't need to.
Down below, the city of New York hummed with its endless energy—a city of millions of stories, of ambition, failure, redemption, and reinvention.
