Chapter 6 - The Fall of Marcus Sterling

At 10:00 a.m. the following morning, Marcus Sterling held a triumphant press conference in the lobby of his own corporate headquarters.

Dressed in a bespoke Italian suit, flashing a slick, media-trained smile, Marcus stood before a wall of reporters and news cameras.

“Today marks a new era in regional technology,” Marcus announced smoothly into the microphones. “I have officially acquired the controlling debt obligations of former CEO Grant Vance, and I intend to file for a complete restructuring of Vance-Grant Innovations under my personal leadership—”

Suddenly, the side doors of the press room flew open.

Four uniformed federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission, accompanied by two state troopers, marched straight down the center aisle.

The reporters gasped, turning their cameras away from the podium toward the law enforcement officers.

Marcus’s slick smile faltered. “What is the meaning of this? I am in the middle of a live broadcast!”

The lead SEC agent stepped up to the podium, pulling an official federal arrest warrant from his jacket.

“Marcus Sterling,” the agent’s voice boomed through the press microphones. “You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit corporate fraud, wire fraud, illegal corporate espionage, and tax evasion involving offshore shell accounts.”

Marcus’s face turned sheet-white. “This is ridiculous! On whose authority?!”

From the back of the room, the crowd of journalists parted.

I walked forward slowly, flanked by Claire and our corporate legal team. I looked radiant in a deep royal blue suit, my hair styled impeccably.

“On my authority, Marcus,” I said, stopping a few feet from him.

Marcus stared at me, his jaw working silently. “Naomi… you… you were behind this?”

“Did you really think I didn't notice the eighty thousand dollars you transferred into Kayla’s offshore account in the Caymans three months ago?” I asked smoothly, as reporters frantically snapped photos. “Or the private investigator you hired to hack into my medical records to use my miscarriages as psychological leverage against my marriage?”

The reporters broke into a frenzy of questions, light bulbs flashing like lightning.

“You thought you were playing a master game of corporate takeover,” I continued, stepping closer so only he could hear. “You thought Grant was the weak link. But Grant was just a small, pathetic fool. You were the real criminal. And now, every single document detailing your illegal bribes has been handed over to the Department of Justice.”

The state troopers stepped forward, twisting Marcus’s arms behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

Marcus struggled against the restraints, dropping all his polished elegance as he screamed, “Naomi! You ruined me! You ruined everything!”

“No, Marcus,” I said coldly, watching as they dragged him past the wall of flashing cameras. “You ruined yourself the moment you mistook my silence for weakness.”
