Chapter 8 - The Corner Bistro Again

The Cornerstone Bistro was quiet on a rainy Tuesday evening. The neon sign buzzed softly against the window, casting a warm red glow across the vinyl booths. Dave, the manager, was standing behind the counter, rubbing a polished glass, when the bell above the door chimed.

He looked up, and the glass almost slipped from his hand.

Alistair Vance, wearing a casual leather jacket, stepped inside, holding the hand of Clara Jenkins, who looked beautiful and radiant in a simple trench coat. Behind them came Seraphina, carrying a backpack and looking around the modest restaurant with a genuine, happy smile.

"Table twelve, please, Dave," Clara said with a wink.

Dave blinked, quickly grabbing three menus. "Right away, Miss Jenkins... I mean, Clara. Right this way."

They sat in the exact same booth where their lives had intersected months ago. The table was simple, the filtered tap water was served in thick glass tumblers, and the menu featured the exact same grilled cheese sandwich that had once caused a ten-thousand-dollar disaster.

"It looks smaller," Seraphina said, tracing a scratch on the wooden table. "And the floors are definitely cleaner."

"That's because I'm not the one scrubbing them anymore," Clara laughed, leaning back against the vinyl seat.

Alistair looked across the table at the two of them, his heart full. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, beautifully bound leather notebook. He slid it across the table to Clara.

"What is this?" she asked, opening it.

Inside were architectural blueprints and financial documents for a grand, historic brownstone in Brooklyn Heights—the very neighborhood where Alistair and Isabella had started their lives before the fortune arrived.

"I bought it yesterday," Alistair said, his voice quiet but filled with an intense, hopeful emotion. "The penthouse is a glass museum, Clara. It belongs to the tech titan. But I want to be a father. I want to be a man who lives in a home with a yard, where the floors creak, and where we can make a mess without worrying about antique porcelain."

He looked into her eyes, his hand reaching across the table to cover hers. "I want us to move there, Clara. As a family. If you'll have us."

Clare’s breath hitched. She looked at the blueprints, then at Seraphina, who was watching her with wide, pleading eyes.

"Please, Clara," Seraphina whispered, her tough exterior completely melting away. "I want a home with a garden. And I want you in it. Every day."

Clara looked at the billionaire who had learned how to be vulnerable, and the little girl who had learned how to be strong. The struggle of her past—the late nights, the financial panic, the grief of losing her own father—all seemed to dissolve into this single, beautiful moment of belonging.

"The kitchen in that brownstone better have good knives, Alistair," Clara said, tears of pure happiness filling her eyes as she squeezed his hand. "Because your dicing skills still need serious work."

Alistair let out a joyous laugh, leaning across the table to press his lips to hers in a sweet, lingering kiss that sealed their new beginning, while Seraphina loudly cheered and clapped from her side of the booth.
