Chapter 8 - The Clearing of the Estate

By midnight, the living room of the Greenwich manor was completely empty of guests.

The partygoers had been quietly escorted off the property by federal agents and security personnel, their names logged, their phones briefly scanned for encrypted communications, and their cars directed down the driveway under the watchful eye of Sinclair security.

The roaring fire had burned down to glowing embers. The broken glass had been swept up by the tactical team, leaving the marble floors spotless.

Sarah sat in a plush armchair by the hearth, a warm cup of herbal tea resting between her hands. The storm outside was beginning to break, the howling wind dropping to a steady, manageable breeze as the snow clouds slowly drifted out over the Atlantic.

Arthur Sterling stepped into the room, holding a sleek leather folio. He bowed respectfully before speaking.

"The federal marshals have transported Mr. O'Connell to the federal holding facility in Manhattan, Miss Sarah. Bail has been denied due to flight-risk indicators and the scale of the offshore asset concealment."

Sarah took a slow sip of her tea. "And the house?"

"All deeds, titles, and subsidiary accounts have been formally reverted to your primary holding trust," Arthur replied. "The staff Derek hired have been dismissed with severance packages. If you wish, we can have a completely new management team deployed from our Boston estate by tomorrow morning."

"No need, Arthur," Sarah said, gazing into the amber flames. "I want this place gutted."

Arthur raised an eyebrow. "Gutted, miss?"

"Every piece of furniture Derek bought, every painting he selected to look sophisticated, every scrap of artificial life he built here—get rid of it," Sarah commanded, her voice calm and absolute. "Burn it, donate it, throw it in the river. I want the slate wiped completely clean. When my daughter is born, she is not going to grow up in a museum built on lies and stolen ledgers."

"Consider it done," Arthur said. "What about Sterling & Finch?"

"Initiate a complete corporate restructure," Sarah instructed, her eyes hardening with executive brilliance. "Fire every board member who sat silently tonight while cowardice ruled the room. Promote merit over sycophancy. And make sure the new CEO knows that transparency is no longer a suggestion—it’s a survival requirement."

Arthur nodded deeply. "Understood, Miss Sinclair."

"Merry Christmas, Miss Sarah."
