With the physical ledger, the digital backups, and Claudia’s meticulous journal entries detailing her criminal enterprise, the prosecution didn't even need to offer a plea deal.
Claudia received a mandatory fifteen-year sentence at the Central California Women's Facility with no parole eligibility for the first ten years, thanks to the severity of the property fraud rings and the systematic abuse charges.
Mark, whose cowardice and complicity were laid bare across every financial document, accepted a plea deal for five years on charges of conspiracy and financial negligence. During his sentencing hearing, he looked across the courtroom toward the gallery where Ethan and I sat, his eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic plea for forgiveness.
I didn't look back. Neither did Ethan. Some bridges aren't meant to be rebuilt; they are meant to be burned down so you can walk away into the light.
