Chapter 10 - The Harvest

The wedding took place in late September at the Hudson Valley estate, just as the leaves began to turn their brilliant shades of autumn.

It wasn't the massive, media-frenzied gala of their first marriage. There were no politicians, no corporate board members, and no paparazzi. It was an intimate gathering of fifty people—close friends, the staff who had become family, the doctors who had saved Claire’s life, and a dozen families from the Delancey Street Atrium who had become Claire’s closest friends.

The ceremony was held down by the lake, beneath a magnificent archway of woven willow branches and white roses.

Blake stood at the altar, looking more handsome and at peace than he ever had in his life. Beside him stood Miller, serving proudly as his best man, dabbing at his eyes with a handkerchief while pretending it was just the wind.

The string quartet began to play a soft, beautiful melody.

Down the grassy aisle walked Isla. She was the most radiant flower girl the world had ever seen, wearing a dress made of layers of white tulle. She didn't drop rose petals. Instead, she carried a beautiful, custom-made wooden basket, carefully handing out perfect, ripe oranges to the guests as she walked down the aisle, her giggles echoing over the water.

And then came Claire.

She took Blake’s breath away. She wore a simple, flowing gown of ivory silk that caught the breeze, her dark hair woven with delicate white blossoms. She walked down the aisle alone, strong and independent, her eyes locked entirely on the man waiting for her at the end of the path.

When she reached him, Blake took her hands in his, his thumbs gently stroking her knuckles.

They didn't recite standard vows. They spoke softly, directly to each other, making promises forged in the fires of everything they had survived.

"I promise to always see you," Blake whispered, his voice steady and full of fierce devotion. "To never let the noise of the world drown out your voice. To protect our family, to honor your strength, and to love you with every beat of my heart, until the very end."

"I promise to never hide from you again," Claire replied, her green eyes shining with happy tears. "To trust you with my fears, to build our future together, and to love you not for what you can conquer, but for the beautiful, gentle man you truly are."

When the minister finally pronounced them husband and wife, Blake pulled Claire into a kiss that held the weight of a thousand apologies and a million new beginnings. The guests cheered loudly, and Isla ran up to wrap her arms around their legs.

Later that evening, as the reception hummed with music and laughter under a canopy of fairy lights, Blake and Claire stole a quiet moment on the wooden dock overlooking the dark, peaceful lake.

Claire leaned back against Blake’s chest, his arms wrapped securely around her. She placed her hand over his, resting them both gently over the subtle, newly forming curve of her stomach.

Blake smiled into her hair, his heart swelling with a love so immense he thought it might break his ribs.

"A little boy this time, Dr. Evans thinks," Claire whispered, looking up at the stars.

"A little boy," Blake repeated, the words tasting like pure magic. "We’re going to need a bigger boat, Mrs. Hamilton."

"We have everything we need, Mr. Hamilton," Claire said, turning her head to kiss his cheek.

Off in the distance, Isla was attempting to teach Miller how to dance, her bright laughter floating across the water like a melody.

Blake looked at his beautiful wife, his incredible daughter, and the peaceful life they had fought so hard to build. The cold, sterile towers of Manhattan felt like a lifetime ago. He had lost an empire of glass and steel, only to inherit a kingdom of warmth, laughter, and unbreakable love.

He pulled Claire closer, the scent of orange blossoms lingering in the air, knowing that no matter what storms came their way, they would never, ever walk in the rain alone again.
