Chapter 10 - The Eternal Vow

One year later.

The private garden behind Stonebridge University Hospital’s historical chapel was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late spring afternoon. White roses covered the stone archways, and delicate cherry blossom petals drifted softly down from the trees in the gentle breeze.

An intimate crowd of fifty people filled the wooden pews: hospital staff, grateful former patients, Dr. Evelyn Vance, Major Thomas Vance, and the hospital board members who now operated under transparent, ethical leadership.

At the front of the altar stood Gabriel Hale.

He looked extraordinarily handsome in a tailored black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, his chest rising and falling with nervous, excited anticipation. Beside him stood Major Thomas Vance as his best man.

The organ began to play a soft, breathtaking melody.

The crowd stood up.

At the end of the stone aisle, framed by the blossoming cherry trees, stood Clara Bennett.

She was breathtaking. Her floor-length white lace wedding dress flowed elegantly around her, embroidered with delicate pearl details that caught the sunlight. She held a bouquet of white peonies and eucalyptus in her hands, her veil floating softly behind her.

Her father had passed away years ago, but as she walked down the aisle, she didn't walk alone—she walked with absolute confidence, her eyes locked onto the man who had sacrificed everything for her soul.

When she reached the altar, Gabriel stepped down to take her hand. His breath caught in his throat, tears of pure, overwhelming joy brimming in his dark eyes.

"You are the most beautiful vision I have ever seen," Gabriel whispered, his voice trembling with emotion as he lifted her veil and held both of her hands in his.

Clara smiled, her eyes shining like bright diamonds. "And you are finally mine."

The elderly hospital chaplain stepped forward, smiling warmly at the couple.

"Friends, family, and colleagues," the chaplain began, his voice echoing gently through the serene garden. "We are gathered here today to celebrate a union born not merely of love, but of extraordinary resilience, sacrifice, and truth."

After the reading of sacred passages, the chaplain turned to Gabriel. "Gabriel, do you take Clara to be your lawful wedded wife, to love her, honor her, protect her, and stand beside her through all the days of your life?"

Gabriel looked deeply into Clara’s eyes, his hands holding hers tightly, his voice ringing out with absolute, unwavering conviction:

"I do. Seven years ago, I promised that we wouldn't disappear on each other. I lost my way in the shadows, but your courage brought me home. I vow to spend every breath I have remaining loving you, honoring you, and standing as your shield against every storm. You are my home, Clara. Forever."

Tears spilled softly down Clara’s cheeks as the crowd wiped away emotional tears.

The chaplain turned to Clara. "Clara, do you take Gabriel to be your lawful wedded husband, to love him, honor him, trust him, and walk beside him in light and in truth?"

Clara squeezed Gabriel’s hands, her voice crystal clear, filled with boundless devotion:

"I do. You carried my burden in secret, Gabriel. You suffered so that I could shine. Now, I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal vow that you will never walk alone again. You are my heart, my equal, and my soulmate. Today, tomorrow, and forever."

"By the authority vested in me," the chaplain declared joyfully, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Gabriel, you may kiss your bride."

Gabriel didn't hesitate for a single second.

He stepped forward, pulled Clara gently into his arms, and dipped her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, eternal kiss.

The garden erupted into wild applause and cheers!

Cherry blossom petals rained down around them like pink snow as Gabriel lifted Clara up, holding her close as she laughed with pure, boundless happiness.

Hand in hand, Dr. Gabriel Hale and Dr. Clara Bennett walked back down the aisle together—not as survivors of a dark past, but as conquerors of their own destiny, stepping forward into a brilliant, endless future together.
