Chapter 10 - The Loudest Promise

One year later.
The Mediterranean sun beat down warmly on the white cliffs of Amalfi, turning the deep blue water of the sea into a dazzling field of liquid diamonds.
Standing on the private terrace of a stunning white marble villa overlooking the ocean was a long wooden dining table decorated with white peonies, fresh lemons, and glowing crystal glasses.
The air smelled of salt, sweet jasmine, and wood-fired pizza from the outdoor oven.
Sitting around the table were Frank, looking healthy and sharp in a navy suit, along with several close family friends and local staff, laughing happily as they poured cold prosecco into glasses.
I stood near the stone balustrade at the edge of the cliff, wearing a simple, breathtaking silk dress of pale cream, my dark hair falling over my shoulders in soft waves.
I was no longer the exhausted, invisible waitress from Rinaldi’s.
I was no longer the grieving woman crying in the rain.
My skin was warm with the Italian sun, my eyes bright, my heart finally whole and unburdened by shadows.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
Aleandro pulled me back against his chest. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his muscular forearms and the gold watch I had given him—restored, polished, and ticking softly against his wrist.
He rested his chin on my shoulder, breathing in the scent of my hair.
"What are you thinking about, bellissima?" he murmured, his voice rich and smooth as dark velvet.
I turned slightly in his arms, resting my hands against his chest, looking up into his dark eyes. The scar on his cheek had faded into a thin, noble silver line that only made him look more breathtakingly handsome.
"I was thinking about the cemetery," I admitted softly.
Aleandro’s eyes softened with a quiet, enduring tenderness. He lifted his hand, his thumb gently tracing my lower lip.
"That cemetery is three thousand miles away, Emma," he said gently. "There are no graves here. Only us."
"I know," I smiled, leaning up to press a soft kiss against his scar. "I was thinking about how I spent six months whispering my regrets to a cold piece of stone... without knowing that the man I loved was listening to every word."
Aleandro smiled—a rare, brilliant, stunning smile that transformed his sharp face into pure light.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
He didn't get down on one knee. He simply opened it, revealing a flawless, pear-cut diamond ring that caught the Amalfi sunlight in brilliant flashes of fire.
"I gave you protection, Emma," Aleandro whispered, his voice trembling slightly with an emotion so deep it filled the entire terrace. "I gave you a home. I gave you my life. Now, I want to give you my name... legally, openly, before the entire world."
He looked deep into my eyes, his soul exposed without a single wall or shadow left between us.
"Will you marry me, Emma Carter?"
I looked at the ring, then up at the man who had walked through fire, fake deaths, and wars just to hold my hand again.
"Yes," I whispered, tears of pure, unadulterated joy shining in my eyes. "A thousand times yes, Aleandro."
He slid the ring onto my finger, then pulled me into a deep, passionate kiss that carried all the fire of our past and all the promise of our future.
Behind us, Frank and the guests cheered, raising their glasses into the sunny sky.

The world outside was vast, dangerous, and unpredictable.
But here, on the cliffs above the sea, the Don had laid down his weapons, the ghost had returned home, and love had finally won the loudest victory of all.
