Chapter 8 - Healing the Broken
Six months passed.
The Florida sunshine restored life and color to the Sterling family.
The dark trauma of the yacht bombing faded into memory, replaced by the warm, comforting routines of a loving home.
In December, the official legal adoption papers were signed at the Broward County Family Courthouse. The judge handed Luna her new birth certificate, officially registering her as Luna Silver Sterling.
To celebrate, Richard and Marina took Peter and Luna on a trip back to the Fort Lauderdale Marina—not on the Golden Hour, which had been renamed The Luna’s Hope, but to the community center near the docks.
With the profits from the new port contract, Richard had established The Luna Silver Foundation—a fifty-million-dollar charity designed to build shelter, provide free healthcare, and fund education for homeless children across South Florida.
On a warm Saturday morning, the family stood before a brand-new three-story building near the marina harbor.
The sign over the entrance read: LUNA’S HOME — REFUGE FOR CHILDREN.
Inside, dozens of formerly homeless children were running through bright playrooms, eating hot meals, and trying on new clothes provided by the foundation.
Luna walked through the halls, looking at the children who were living the same life she had lived just months earlier.
She stopped beside a little boy with dirty shoes who was sitting alone in a corner, clutching a half-eaten sandwich.
Luna walked over, crouched down, and offered him a warm smile.
“Hi,” Luna said gently. “What’s your name?”
“Tommy,” the boy whispered nervously.
Luna reached into her small purse and handed him a soft plush teddy bear. “Don't be scared, Tommy. Nobody’s going to chase you away here. You’re safe now.”
Marina stood in the doorway, watching Luna with eyes full of tears. She leaned her head against Richard’s shoulder.

“Look at her, Richard,” Marina whispered. “She suffered so much, yet she has so much love to give.”
“She’s a miracle, Marina,” Richard agreed, wrapping his arm around his wife’s waist. “She saved our family in more ways than one.”
