Chapter 8 - The CleansingTwo weeks passed.

The transformation inside Room 604 was nothing short of miraculous.

Evie’s blast counts dropped to zero. Her white blood cell count, powered by Nolan’s healthy marrow, began to climb steadily. Her skin lost its sickly yellow tint, replaced by a healthy, rosy glow. She was eating real food, laughing at cartoons, and playing board games with Jack on the floor of the private suite.

Nolan’s recovery was equally fast. Within four days, the deep bone pain in his hip subsided to a dull ache. He remained at the hospital every single day, converting the adjoining room into a fully functioning executive office, running his empire through encrypted satellite links while never being more than ten feet away from his children.

However, outside the hospital walls, the final remnants of his old life required a permanent resolution.

On a dark, rainy Tuesday evening, while Mara was putting the twins to sleep, Nolan stepped into his private SUV parked in the hospital's underground garage. Grant sat in the driver's seat.

"Is everything prepared?" Nolan asked coldly.

"Yes, boss," Grant replied. "Federal prosecutors executed sweeping RICO warrants against Julian Vance an hour ago. Every illegal dock operation, every offshore account, and every wiretap record Vance owned was handed over to the Department of Justice on a silver platter."

Nolan nodded slowly.

He hadn't used guns to destroy Julian Vance. He had used his vast logistics network to quietly compile five hundred pages of undeniable federal evidence against Vance’s entire organization, handing it directly to the Deputy Attorney General in Washington D.C. in exchange for absolute immunity for his own legitimate shipping companies.

"Vance is facing life without parole," Grant added, a smirk touching his lips. "He was arrested at his Hidden Hills estate thirty minutes ago. He'll never see the light of day again."

"And our logistics operations?" Nolan asked.

"Completely legitimized, boss," Grant said proudly. "We sold off the freight routes in Mexico and Canada. Blackwood Logistics is now a one-hundred-percent clean, legal commercial shipping firm. No contraband. No enforcement arms. No gray-market contracts. Just like you ordered."

Nolan looked out the wet window at the rain falling over Los Angeles.

He had spent fifteen years building a shadowy empire out of violence, fear, and illegal control. It had taken him two weeks to tear it down and rebuild it into something clean—something he could look his son and daughter in the eye and be proud of.

"Good," Nolan said quietly. "Drive me back upstairs."
