Chapter 9 - The Golden Coronation

Nine months later.

The autumn sun broke over the snow-capped peaks of Valdemore, flooding the ancient capital city in a sea of golden light.

The streets were packed with over two hundred thousand cheering citizens waving the blue and gold flags of the kingdom. High above the cobblestone plazas, the bells of the Great Cathedral rang out in a glorious, booming symphony that shook the mountains.

Inside the grand cathedral, bathed in the radiant light streaming through centuries-old stained-glass windows, sat three hundred international dignitaries, world leaders, monarchs, and ambassadors.

Sitting in the front row of honor, wearing a sleek navy suit and her official foundation medal, was Mrs. Evelyn Farrow—the former housekeeper of the Greenwich estate—now one of the most respected philanthropic directors in Europe.

At the center of the altar stood Prince Edward, dressed in the magnificent golden coronation robes of the Sovereign Monarch. Beside him stood Lady Clara Sterling, wearing a gown of pure white silk and an delicate tiara of silver oak leaves.

Standing before them, holding the ancient golden Crown of Valdemore in her gloved hands, was Her Majesty Dowager Empress Margaret.

She looked radiant, powerful, and completely at peace. Her gray-blue eyes were bright with quiet pride as she looked at her son and the incredible young woman who stood beside him.

Margaret raised the golden crown high above Edward’s head.

The entire cathedral fell into reverent, breathtaking silence.

"By the grace of Almighty God," Margaret’s voice resonated through the sacred hall, carried by the brilliant acoustics, "and by the sovereign will of the people of Valdemore, I place upon you the Crown of your ancestors. Rule with justice. Guard the weak. Honor the truth. And remember always that a King’s true throne is found in the hearts of his people."

She gently lowered the heavy crown onto Edward’s head.

Edward looked up, his eyes shining with profound emotion, and bowed his head to his mother.

"LONG LIVE KING EDWARD!" Chancellor Frederick cried out from the altar stairs.

"LONG LIVE QUEEN CLARA! LONG LIVE THE DOWAGER EMPRESS!"

The entire cathedral erupted into a thunderous, deafening ovation! Trumpets blared, organ music soared into the vaulted ceiling, and outside in the public square, two hundred thousand voices lifted in a unified roar of pure joy that echoed across the valley!

Edward took Clara’s hand, turning to face their people for the first time as King and Queen.

Beside them, Margaret stepped back into the quiet shadow of the altar column.

She took a long, deep breath, resting her hand lightly against her chest, feeling the steady, peaceful beat of her heart.

She had lost her husband. She had seen her son’s heart broken. She had endured the dust, the cold stone, and the cruel words of a woman who thought she was invincible.

And through it all, truth had prevailed.
