Chapter 10 - The Garden of Truth

Spring returned to the valley with an abundance of life.
The green hills of the south valley plot—the eighty thousand acres my father had died to protect—were carpeted in brilliant wild sunflowers and bluebonnets. The land was officially protected forever, turned into the Arthur Lin Nature Conservancy through a legal deed signed by my mother and me.
I stood on the stone patio behind our house—my father's house. The dark burns from the kitchen explosion six months ago had been completely repaired, replaced with warm oak finishings and bright, open windows that let the sunlight stream into every corner.
"Mr. Matthew," a gentle voice called out.
I turned to see Sofia walking out onto the patio carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. Her eyebrow bore only a faint, almost invisible scar where Cassandra had struck her—a mark of honor, as far as I was concerned.
"Thank you, Sofia," I said, taking a glass. "Is Mom ready?"
"She's just coming now," Sofia smiled warmly, gesturing toward the garden path.
My mother walked slowly up the stone steps, supported by a wooden cane, but walking entirely under her own power. Her laughter echoed through the warm afternoon air as she chatted with Dr. Jonathan Vance, who walked beside her holding a bouquet of freshly cut garden roses.
"Matthew!" my mother called out, her voice strong and bright. "Look what Jonathan brought for the dining table."
"They're beautiful, Mom," I said, walking over to kiss her cheek.
We sat together at the large wooden table on the patio, looking out over the endless green expanse of the conservancy. The house was no longer a place of dark shadows, whispered lies, and hidden poisons. It was filled with the clear light of truth, protected by the strength of a family that had survived the storm and emerged stronger than ever.
Jonathan raised his glass of lemonade. "To the truth, and to the future."

"To family," my mother added softly, looking at me with eyes filled with pride and deep, unwavering love.
I raised my glass, feeling the warm sun on my face. The white dress and polished lies were gone, burned away by the fire. All that remained was the ground beneath our feet, the truth in our hearts, and a peaceful future stretching out as far as the eye could see.
