Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Skyline

Six months later.
The summer evening air was crisp and clear over downtown Seattle. The sky was painted in brilliant shades of gold, violet, and deep blue as the sun sank behind the Olympic Mountains.
I stood on the expansive outdoor terrace of The Apex Penthouse, holding a crystal glass of fine scotch. Beside me stood Vance Sterling and Clara, sharing a toast to the completion of the Waterfront Harbor Project—a venture that had doubled my company's valuation to over $500 million.
The Mercer name was no longer associated with a bankrupt local contractor or a pathetic family scam. It was synonymous with architectural brilliance, integrity, and unyielding strength.
"To the future, Evan," Vance said, clinking his glass against mine.
"To the future," I agreed.
After my guests left, I walked to the edge of the terrace, looking down at the shimmering lights of the city below.
My phone buzzed on the patio table. It was a formal notification from my legal team confirming that the final bankruptcy proceedings for Mercer Construction LLC had concluded. All assets had been liquidated, and the Mercer family estate had been officially erased from public land registries.
There was no anger left in my chest. No bitterness. The cut inside my cheek had healed a decade ago, and the psychological scars had finally turned into armor.
I looked out at the skyline I had helped build—towering structures of steel and glass rising proudly into the night sky.
I took a sip of scotch, felt the warmth settle in my chest, and smiled.

I had built my own palace, fought off the wolves, and proved once and for all that my life, my success, and my sovereignty were non-negotiable.
I was finally home.
