Chapter 10 - WHAT THE LIGHT REVEALS

The sun began its slow descent behind the distant pine-covered mountains, casting a long, warm golden light across the surface of the lake.
Daniel lay on the grass with his arms wrapped tightly around both of his children. They were breathing heavily from playing, their faces flushed, their eyes bright with contentment.
Noah rested his head against Daniel's shoulder, looking up at the drifting clouds. "Dad?"
"Yeah, buddy?" Daniel asked, stroking his son's hair.
"Are we gonna be okay now? For real?"
Daniel pulled both of them closer, feeling the steady beat of their hearts against his chest—the hearts he had almost failed to protect, but had ultimately fought to save. He looked toward the house, where the warm lights from the kitchen were beginning to glow against the dusk, casting a safe, welcoming light across the porch.
"We're not just gonna be okay, Noah," Daniel promised, his voice clear, steady, and filled with unwavering conviction. "We are going to be great. All of us."
"And Mommy is happy too," Maisie added softly, pointing up at the first evening star twinkling above the water.
"Yes, she is," Daniel whispered. "She's very proud of you both."

They sat together on the lawn as the cool evening breeze swept over the lake, rustling the autumn leaves above them. The dark secrets that had once threatened to tear their lives apart were finally gone, replaced by the enduring strength of a father's love and the unbreakable courage of two children who had refused to let the truth be buried.
As the stars filled the clear night sky, the laughter of the small family echoed softly across the water, carrying away the last lingering shadows of the past and welcoming a bright, peaceful future.
