Chapter 10 - The Horizon We Own

Late May on the New England coast brought fields of wild lupines and a warm, golden sun that turned the Atlantic Ocean into a sheet of glittering diamonds.
The Barrington estate—now officially renamed the Armand-Frost Family Trust Residence—was alive with the sounds of new life and enduring peace. The heavy iron gates stood open to the sunlight, welcoming friends, family, and trusted colleagues without fear or suspicion.
Inside the grand sunroom, Abigail sat in the plush armchair where she had once read Celeste’s poison pen letter months ago. Now, the marble fireplace behind her was filled with fresh spring hydrangeas instead of burning logs, and the air smelled of sweet vanilla and baby powder.
Noah was sleeping soundly in his wooden bassinet nearby, his tiny chest rising and falling in steady, rhythmic breaths.
Rowan walked in from the foyer, shedding his suit jacket and rolling up his white shirt sleeves. He had spent the morning video-conferencing with the board of trustees, successfully restructuring the foundation’s governance charter to ensure absolute transparency, mandatory independent audits, and unbreakable protections for family beneficiaries.
He walked over to Abigail, leaning down to press a warm, lingering kiss against her lips before sinking into the adjacent sofa with a happy sigh.
“The new governance charter passed unanimously,” Rowan reported, a proud, relaxed smile breaking across his handsome face. “No more hidden clauses, no more vulnerable loopholes, and zero tolerance for internal proxy manipulation. The foundation is officially bulletproof.”
Abigail smiled, closing her book and setting it on the side table. “And how is the CEO holding up?”
Rowan reached out, taking her hand and pulling himself closer until he was sitting on the edge of her chair, resting his chin on her shoulder as he looked over at their sleeping son.
“The CEO is exhausted, deeply in love, and convinced he is the luckiest man alive,” Rowan murmured softly, his arm sliding securely around her waist.
Abigail leaned back against his chest, feeling the solid, unshakeable strength of the man who had torn down an empire to protect her. She thought back to the moment she had been on her knees scrubbing the marble floor while Celeste stood over her with cold, calculating eyes—the moment she had thought her life was shrinking into a cage of isolation and fear.
Instead, it had been the crucible that forged their true foundation.
The past was gone, burned away like ash in the fireplace. The shadows had cleared, leaving behind a world bathed in light.

Abigail reached up, placing her hand over Rowan’s, and smiled out toward the endless, sunlit horizon.
They were home. And the future belonged entirely to them.
