CHAPTER 2: THE SONG HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HEAR

The final piano note still lingered in the air.
It didn’t fade.
It hung there—like time itself had stopped to listen.
The ballroom, once filled with laughter and crystal clinking, had turned into something else entirely.
Silence.
Heavy.
Unnatural.
The barefoot girl sat at the grand piano, her small hands still resting on the keys.
Mud stained the ivory surface.
Her torn dress made her look like she didn’t belong in this world.
But the sound she had created…
belonged nowhere else.
A billionaire near the front stood frozen.
“No…” he whispered. “That song is impossible.”
Others began to murmur.
“That’s a classical piece…”
“But it hasn’t been performed in decades…”
The girl slowly pulled her hands back.
As if afraid she had done something wrong.
The laughter from earlier was gone.
Completely erased.
The man who had mocked her stepped forward.
His voice now uncertain.
“Kid… where did you learn that?”
She didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, she looked down at the piano.
Then softly said:
“My mom played it.”
A pause.
“She said this piano used to be hers.”
That sentence shattered something in the room.
Whispers spread instantly.
“That piano is worth millions…”
“It belonged to the founder’s private collection…”
The billionaire who had been laughing earlier now looked pale.
Because he knew.
That piano was not just expensive.
It was untouchable history.
He stepped forward slowly.
“Who is your mother?” he asked carefully.
The girl hesitated.
Then whispered:
“She used to work here.”
Silence again.
But this time… it was different.
This silence felt like a door opening.
Somewhere in the room, a glass slipped and shattered on the floor.
No one reacted.
Because everyone was looking at the girl now.
May you like
And the piano.
And the impossible connection forming between them.
