Chapter 6 - The Gathering Storm

Over the next two weeks, the dynamic inside the Marlowe estate transformed entirely.

Dominic launched a ruthless, covert war against Sterling Pharmaceuticals and Julian Marlowe’s financial network. Armed with information provided by Lena regarding Daniel’s old delivery routes, Marcus intercepted four major illegal shipments along the Illinois border, seizing fifty million dollars worth of contraband and exposing Sterling’s shell companies to federal authorities.

Meanwhile, Lena’s position beside Dominic was no longer a secret.

She no longer wore a housekeeper's uniform. She wore elegant, tailored dresses that flattered her full, voluptuous figure—dresses Dominic had personally ordered from top designers in Milan.

She accompanied Dominic to high-level private meetings in his study, sitting at his side as an equal, reviewing medical logistics and security protocols.

One evening, as rain poured over Lake Michigan, Dominic took Lena to the grand dining room for dinner.

The long mahogany table was set with fine crystal, silver cutlery, and flickering white candles. Chef-prepared ribeye steaks and fresh roasted vegetables were served by attentive staff who now addressed Lena as Ma'am with deep, genuine respect.

Lena looked at the extravagant spread, feeling a strange mix of comfort and anxiety.

"You're quiet tonight," Dominic noted, cutting a piece of steak and watching her across the candlelight.

"I’m not used to this, Dominic," Lena admitted, swirling her red wine in her glass. "A month ago, I was eating cold soup in the staff kitchen after a twelve-hour shift. Now I’m sitting in silk dresses eating wagyu beef."

"You belong here, Lena," Dominic said firmly. "You belong wherever you want to be."

"Do I?" Lena looked into his eyes. "What happens when Sterling is finished? What happens when the dust settles and your world goes back to normal?"

Dominic set his knife and fork down. He stood up, walked around the long table, and took Lena’s hand, pulling her up from her chair.

He led her to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the dark, stormy lake.

"There is no 'normal' without you anymore, Lena," Dominic whispered, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. His broad, solid chest pressed against her back, giving her a sense of absolute security. "I spent forty years living in a fortress, surrounded by people who wanted my money, my power, or my life. You’re the only person who ever looked at me and saw a man worth saving."

Lena leaned back against his powerful frame, covering his hands with hers. "I love you, Dominic."

Dominic froze. His arms tightened around her waist so fiercely she could barely breathe.

He spun her around in his arms, his dark eyes blazing with an emotion so deep, so overwhelming, that it took her breath away.

"Say that again," Dominic demanded, his voice hoarse.

"I love you," Lena repeated, looking straight into his soul. "Dominic Marlowe, I love you."

Dominic bent his head and kissed her.

It was not a gentle kiss. It was deep, possessive, hungry, and filled with three years of unspoken longing. Lena wrapped her arms around his neck, standing on her tiptoes, completely surrendering to the sensation of his lips against hers, his warm hands pulling her soft curves tightly against his body.

May you like

When he finally broke the kiss, both of them were breathless.

"I love you, Lena," Dominic swore, his forehead resting against hers. "More than this city. More than my life."
