Chapter 10 - The Garden in Bloom

Six months later, spring arrived in New York in a wave of brilliant color, warm sunshine, and blooming flowers.
The grounds of the Romano Estate had been completely transformed. The once cold, stone-lined gardens were now overflowing with vibrant lavender, blooming cherry blossoms, lush green lawns, and aromatic herb beds designed by Lily.
On a perfect Sunday afternoon, music drifted across the sunlit lawn.
A grand white marquee stood near the greenhouse, filled with hundreds of guests—not just syndicate bosses, but local community leaders, hospital staff, dockworkers, and Lily’s family from Queens.
Under the ancient oak tree overlooking the Hudson River, Lily stood in a breathtaking lace wedding gown. The dress was designed specifically for her, hugging her gorgeous curves, featuring a sweet sweetheart neckline and a long, sweeping train covered in hand-embroidered floral vines.
Beside her stood Alessandro, wearing a sharp dark navy tuxedo, his hand wrapped tightly around hers, his amber eyes filled with a radiant, unshakeable happiness.
"By the power vested in me," the officiant announced warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Alessandro, you may kiss your bride."
Alessandro didn't hesitate. He pulled Lily into his arms, dipping her back slightly as he kissed her deeply under the warm spring sun. The entire crowd erupted into joyful cheers, clapping, and whistling.
As they stood back up, a small voice called out from the front row.
"Papa! Lily! Look!"
The crowd gasped.
Ethan stood up from his leather wheelchair.
He didn't use armrests. He didn't use a walker. Wearing a dark suit that matched his father's, the eight-year-old boy took three slow, steady, independent steps across the green grass toward them.
Tears sprang to Lily’s eyes as she covered her mouth. Alessandro dropped to one knee, his broad shoulders shaking with silent, happy sobs as his son walked directly into his open arms.
"I did it, Papa," Ethan whispered, hugging his father’s neck tightly. "Lily said my legs were just sleeping."
Alessandro pulled Ethan close, then looked up at Lily, extending his hand to pull his bride down onto the grass with them. He wrapped his massive arms around both his wife and his son, holding them tight under the warm golden sunlight.
"Thank you," Alessandro whispered into Lily’s ear, his voice thick with devotion. "You healed my son. You healed my heart. You made this house a home."
Lily smiled, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart.

"We made a home, Alessandro," Lily whispered back, looking out over the blooming gardens and the laughing child between them. "And it's going to bloom forever."
And under the bright blue sky, surrounded by love, strength, and blooming life, the mafia king and his gardener bride lived happily ever after.
