Chapter 10 - The Master Strain
As the music swirled through the magnificent hall below, Adrian set his glass down on the balcony railing and turned to face Clara completely.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, navy velvet box.
Clara’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart beat with the same electric, thrilling pulse she had felt the night they met.
Adrian opened the box. Inside rested a breathtaking ring—a brilliant, flawless cushion-cut emerald surrounded by a band of polished white platinum, designed in the sharp, geometric lines of classic structural architecture.
“Adrian...” Clara whispered.
“Six months ago, Clara, a woman threw a glass of Cabernet at my chest and saved my life,” Adrian said, his voice deep, clear, and filled with an emotion he no longer tried to hide. “She showed me that strength isn't about how many men you command or how much fear you inspire. It’s about truth, courage, and standing firm when everything around you is falling apart.”
He looked directly into her eyes, his hands holding hers with total devotion.
“I built an empire out of stone and steel, Clara. But you are the only foundation I ever want for my life. Will you marry me?”
Clara looked at the ring, then up at the extraordinary man standing before her—a man who had traded shadows for light, power for honor, and cold isolation for a love that could never be shaken.
She smiled, her eyes shining with pure joy.
“On one condition, Adrian Moretti,” Clara said, a touch of playful wit returning to her voice.
Adrian smiled warmly. “Name it.”
“If we ever go to a formal dinner again...” Clara whispered, stepping closer and wrapping her arms around his neck, “...you let me pick the wine.”
