Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

At 11:30 AM the following morning, the grand ballroom of the Grand Vista Hotel in downtown Miami was filled with power, wealth, and corruption.

Heavy crystal chandeliers illuminated a massive horseshoe conference table.

Seated around the table were the heads of South Florida’s most powerful criminal syndicates, three corrupt city commissioners, and Julian Rossi’s team of high-priced corporate attorneys.

At the head of the table sat Julian Rossi, wearing a white linen suit, sipping champagne.

Dr. Harrison Lipton stood beside him, holding a thick leather binder containing Victor Rossi’s official medical records and a signed, notarized death declaration waiting for the final timestamp.

"Gentlemen," Julian announced, standing up and raising his glass. "Thank you for attending on such short notice. As you know, my beloved brother Victor has been battling a tragic, incurable neurological condition for the past eight months. This morning at 9:00 AM... he peacefully passed away at his estate."

A murmur of rehearsed condolences swept through the room.

"According to Victor's last wishes and his corporate trust agreement," Julian continued, gesturing to his lawyer, "all voting rights and operational assets of the Rossi Shipping Enterprise transfer directly to me. Today, we open a new era of prosperity for Miami."

"Is the death certificate certified?" asked Don Carlos, an elderly mob leader sitting near the center of the table.

"It is," Dr. Lipton spoke up, stepping forward with his glasses gleaming under the chandeliers. "I have twenty signed affidavits from the top neurologists in the nation. His death was entirely natural."

"Really, Harrison?" a deep, thunderous voice suddenly echoed from the back of the ballroom. "Because I feel remarkably healthy for a corpse."

The entire room went dead, frozen silent.

The massive double mahogany doors of the ballroom slammed open, swinging wide on their brass hinges.

Walking through the doorway was Victor Rossi.

He was dressed in a tailored charcoal three-piece suit. He moved with a slight limp, leaning lightly on a silver-headed cane, but his posture was straight, his chin lifted, and his dark eyes burned with absolute, terrifying vitality.

And walking right beside him, wearing a sharp black tactical suit with her hair pulled back tightly, was Tessa Harper.

Beside her walked Dante Cole—alongside twelve heavily armed, elite security operators loyal to the original Rossi family line.

Julian’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers, shattering onto the marble floor. His face turned as white as his linen suit. "V-Victor...?! No... this is impossible! You were dying!"

Dr. Lipton backed away toward the window, his knees knocking together in sheer terror. "He... he was in end-stage heart failure! He couldn't walk!"

Victor walked slowly up the center aisle, the metallic click of his cane echoing like a death knell off the tall walls.

The security guards hired by Julian reached for their weapons, but Dante Cole stepped forward, drawing two heavy handguns and aiming them directly at their heads. "Drop them," Dante roared. "Or every single one of you gets buried in the swamp before sunset!"

Julian’s guards instantly threw their weapons onto the carpet, raising their hands.

Victor stopped at the head of the table, facing his younger brother.

"You look like you've seen a ghost, Julian," Victor said softly, his voice smooth, deep, and dripping with venom.

"Victor... brother... listen to me!" Julian stammered, sweating profusely, backing away until his spine hit the glass windows. "This is a misunderstanding! I was told you had passed! Dr. Lipton told me—"

"Dr. Lipton was giving you the time to sign my life away," Victor interrupted, turning his dark gaze onto the trembling neurologist.

Tessa stepped forward, placing a thick dossier onto the center of the conference table.

"Inside this file," Tessa announced loudly to the gathered syndicate leaders, "are the independent forensic toxicology reports from Aegis Labs, certified by the State Medical Examiner's office. It details eight months of deliberate thallium and arsenic poisoning administered through Mr. Rossi’s tea and IV lines."

She clicked a remote control in her hand.

The large projection screen behind the table flashed to life, displaying high-definition security footage recorded from the study's hidden pinhole camera—footage Dante had retrieved under Victor’s orders twenty-four hours ago.

The video showed Dr. Lipton handing Julian small vials of white powder, and Julian personally spooning the toxic compound into Victor’s imported tea box while smiling.

The room erupted into shocked gasps and angry roars from the syndicate bosses.

"You poisoned your own blood?!" Don Carlos shouted in disgust, slamming his fist onto the table. "You broke the oldest law of the families!"

"It’s fake! It’s a photoshop edit!" Julian shrieked, looking wildly around the room for an exit. "Dante! Kill them! Kill the maid!"

Dante didn't move an inch. He looked at Julian with pure, unadulterated hatred. "You made me guard a man I thought was dying of sickness, Julian. You made me watch my boss suffer while you slipped poison in his cup. You're lucky Victor wants you alive for the police."

"Police?" Julian sneered, trying to regain his composure. "You think the police can touch me?! I own the city commissioners! I own the judges!"

May you like

"You owned them when people thought Victor was dead," Tessa said smoothly, holding up her phone. "On this line right now is the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Miami Field Office. They’ve been monitoring this room through my open microphone for twenty minutes. And they aren't local police, Julian. They’re federal."

The heavy glass windows at the far end of the ballroom shattered as FBI tactical officers rappelled down from helicopters above, screaming: "FBI! HANDS IN THE AIR! DON'T MOVE!"
