Chapter 20 - The Loudest Heart

Five years later.

The summer sun was setting over the Torino estate, turning the sky into a magnificent tapestry of gold, deep crimson, and soft violet.

On the wide stone terrace overlooking the green lawns and the blue lake below, a long wooden table was set for a festive family dinner.

A rich spread of Italian food, fresh bread, red wine, and summer fruits filled the table.

Sitting at the table were Frank and his new wife, laughing warmly as they shared stories with Arthur Vance and Sofia, who was now a celebrated young art curator running the foundation’s European division.

Out on the lawn, six-year-old Salvatore was running wild through the clover, chasing a friendly golden retriever, his clear, high-pitched laughter echoing over the water.

Sitting on a white bench under the massive maple tree was Maria, holding their three-year-old daughter, Rosa, who was happily picking yellow wildflowers to make a crown for her mother.

Vincent stood near the stone railing of the terrace, wearing a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, leaning comfortably against the balustrade, a glass of sparkling water in his hand.

He didn't need a cane. He didn't need armed guards standing at the corners of the lawn.

The estate was open, free, and filled with the warm, beautiful sounds of a life fully lived.

Maria stood up from the bench, letting little Rosa run off to join her brother on the grass.

She walked up the stone steps of the terrace, her white sundress fluttering in the warm evening breeze, her brown eyes fixed on her husband.

She walked over to Vincent, slipping her hand into his large, warm palm.

Vincent looked down at her, his scarred face illuminated by the golden light of the setting sun, his gray eyes shining with an absolute, permanent joy that no storm could ever dim.

"What are you listening to, my love?" Maria asked softly, resting her chin against his broad shoulder.

Vincent pulled her into his arms, holding her close against his beating heart, looking out over the hill where his children were laughing, where his family was thriving, where his life’s work had brought peace to thousands.

He closed his eyes for a brief, magnificent second, listening to the symphony of his world:

The rustle of her dress in the summer wind.

The cheerful chatter of his friends at the dinner table.

The bright, unfiltered laughter of his children on the lawn.

And the steady, beautiful beat of Maria’s heart against his chest.

Vincent opened his eyes, looking down into the face of the woman who had walked into his silent house as a maid and given him the entire universe.

"I’m listening to the music, Maria," Vincent whispered, his voice a perfect harmony of strength, devotion, and eternal gratitude. "And it’s the most beautiful sound in the world."

Outside the iron gates, the world was vast, loud, and full of storms.

But inside the mansion on the hill, the don had finally found his forever—a home, a future, and a love that was entirely, magnificently, and beautifully loud.
