Chapter 7 - Breach and Extraction

At 3:00 a.m. the following night, the storm hit Chicago. Torrential rain lashed against the windows of St. Andrews Hospital, thunder shaking the concrete foundations.
In the dark alley behind the hospital's service entrance, three unmarked black SUVs pulled up, their engines idling silently. Four men dressed in black tactical gear stepped out, led by Julian Moretti’s chief enforcer, Marco Vance.
Marco signaled his men. They had the security codes provided by Dr. Sloan. The side door clicked unlocked, and the four men slipped inside, heading straight for the service elevator to retrieve the infant from the sixth floor.
They rode the elevator in silence up to the sixth floor. When the doors slid open, the corridor was pitch black, lit only by the emergency exit signs.
"Sloan said the room was at the end of the hall," Marco whispered, unclipping his silenced firearm. "Get the kid, get him into the transport cooler, and let's go before Bolaro's men downstairs notice anything."
They moved down the hall, their heavy boots silent on the dusty floor. Marco pushed open the door to the temporary nursery.
The room was quiet. In the center sat the incubator, draped in a light blanket.
Marco stepped forward, drawing back the blanket—and stopped dead.
Inside the incubator was not a baby. It was an encrypted radio transmitter, blinking with a steady red light.
"It's a setup!" Marco yelled, turning around—
The heavy double doors behind them slammed shut, locked from the outside. The overhead surgical lights flickered on with a blinding flash, illuminating the room.
Standing along the upper observation gallery were eight of Roman Bolaro's top enforcers, weapons raised and trained directly on Marco and his men.

And standing right in the doorway of the adjacent prep room was Roman himself, wearing a dark wool coat, his arms crossed calmly over his chest.
"Looking for someone, Marco?" Roman asked, his voice ringing cold and clear over the hum of the air handlers.
