Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at West Tower

Two days later, Clayton arranged a mandatory, closed-door meeting at the West Industries headquarters in Manhattan under the pretense of discussing a settlement.

Richard and Julian arrived flanked by a team of expensive corporate defense attorneys, looking triumphant. They assumed Clayton had folded under the pressure of the negative publicity.

The glass-walled conference room on the 50th floor overlooked a snow-covered Central Park. Clayton sat at the head of the table, with Molly sitting directly to his right. Her presence in the corporate boardroom was an explicit statement: she belonged here.

“I’m glad you’ve come to your senses, Clayton,” Richard said, tossing his leather briefcase onto the glass table. “We can settle this quietly. The maid signs a full renunciation of the trust, leaves the state, and we will agree not to pursue criminal charges for elder abuse. We can tell the press it was all a administrative misunderstanding.”

Julian Cross smiled, a smug, arrogant expression. “It’s the best way to protect your mother's memory, Clayton. You don't want her private medical struggles exposed in a public deposition.”

Clayton didn't say a word. He leaned forward and pressed a button on the center console.

The massive projection screen on the wall came alive, displaying a series of financial spreadsheets, followed by bank routing numbers tracing the forty million dollars from the West Foundation directly into Richard’s offshore accounts in Zurich.

Richard’s smile instantly froze.

“What is this?” Julian stammered, his face turning an ashen gray.

“This is a forensic audit of the foundation’s capital accounts for the last three years,” Clayton said, his voice sounding like a gavel striking stone. “And this next part is for you, Julian.”

Clayton pressed another button. The audio recording from Eleanor’s dictaphone filled the room. The matriarch’s voice was weak but unmistakably clear: “Get away from me, Julian. I know what you’re putting in my IV. I know you’re trying to make me sleep so Richard can bring those papers. If you touch that syringe again, I will have Clayton ruin you.”

The room fell into a deathly, suffocating silence. The attorneys hired by Richard slowly closed their laptops, realizing they were no longer representing a family dispute—they were representing federal criminals.

“You have exactly ten minutes to sign a full, unconditional surrender of all your positions within the West Group,” Clayton said, sliding a set of legal documents across the glass table. “You will sign over your personal assets to restitute the forty million dollars you stole from the foundation. If you don't, the FBI agents waiting in the lobby downstairs will come up and escort you out in handcuffs.”

Richard stared at Clayton, his eyes wild with terror and rage. He looked at Molly, his voice trembling. “You... you did this. You ruined our family.”

Molly rose from her chair, looking down at the billionaire's nephew with a calm, unshakeable dignity. “No, Richard. You ruined this family the moment you put a price tag on a dying woman's life. I just held her hand while you tore it apart.”

With no options left and their legal team advising them to comply to avoid a maximum sentence, Richard and Julian picked up their pens and signed away their legacies.
