Chapter 4 - Unbreakable Proof

Dr. Evelyn Reed took the witness stand without hesitation. She unlocked her briefcase and pulled out a encrypted server drive, connecting it to the courtroom’s high-definition display system.
"Your Honor," Dr. Reed stated, her voice sharp and clinical. "I have conducted a frame-by-frame, bit-by-bit hardware analysis of the device worn by Sorrel Vance over the last ninety days. The smartwatch possessed an embedded biometric sensor that continuously recorded ambient audio, temperature, heart rate, and movement vectors."
The large monitors in the courtroom flickered to life. A glowing timeline filled the screens, marked with red distress spikes.
"On fourteen separate occasions over the last two months," Dr. Reed continued, pointing to the glowing red markers, "the child’s heart rate spiked above 160 beats per minute while her physical movement was restricted to a radius of less than three feet. The audio logs attached to these exact timestamps contain continuous vocal recordings of the defendant, Pamela Vance."
Dr. Reed pressed a button. The pristine acoustics of the courtroom were filled not just with short snippets, but with hours of continuous ambient recording.
“If you drop that plate, you sleep in the garage without dinner.” “Don't bother crying. Your father isn't coming back. He left you because you're a burden.” “Hold still while I lock this. If I hear a peep out of you, I'll throw your mother's ring into the incinerator.”
The horrific audio echoed off the high marble walls. Members of the jury panel gasped in shock; two reporters covered their mouths, tears springing to their eyes. Arthur Vance slumped back into his seat, his face pale, realizing the political and financial ruin unfolding before him.
Julian Sterling frantically stood up. "Objection! Your Honor, this audio—"
"Objection overruled!" Judge Harrison snapped, her eyes burning with fury as she looked down at Pamela. "This court has heard enough."
Pamela began to tremble uncontrollably, looking around the room as if searching for an escape. "It’s not fair! She was ruining my life! She was always in the way!" she shrieked, breaking her calm persona entirely. "Hadrian was supposed to marry me! Not keep living in the ghost of his dead wife!"

The judge slammed her gavel down with a deafening crack. "Bail is denied. The defendant will be remanded to the maximum-security state holding facility pending immediate trial for felony child abuse, unlawful imprisonment, and grand theft. Court is adjourned!"
As the bailiffs stepped forward and slammed handcuffs onto Pamela’s wrists, she screamed, thrashing against them as she was dragged down the side hallway. Hadrian didn't watch her burn. He simply closed his leather folder, turned his back on the disgraced heiress, and walked out to go home to his daughter.
