Chapter 10 - The Family We Chose

One year later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the picturesque coastline of Cape Cod. The blue waters of the Atlantic crashed gently against the golden sands of the private beach behind the Morrison summer estate.

White silk ribbons fluttered in the soft sea breeze. A beautiful wooden altar decorated with white roses and eucalyptus stood on the sand, facing the shimmering ocean.

Sitting in the front row of white chairs were May Chen and Marcus, both wearing proud, glowing smiles.

Standing near the altar was James Morrison. He looked breathtakingly handsome in a tailored navy blue linen tuxedo, his heart hammering against his ribs like a nervous teenager’s. Beside him stood his three best men—Daniel, David, and Desmond—all dressed in matching mini-tuxedos with sharp white boutonnieres.

The acoustic guitar began to play a soft, beautiful melody.

Everyone stood up.

Walking down the wooden aisle on the sand, holding a bouquet of wild lilies and white roses, was Martha Davies.

She wore an exquisite, flowing lace wedding gown that caught the summer light like spun silver. Her hair was styled in soft waves adorned with small pearls. Her face radiated a pure, radiant beauty that took everyone's breath away. But the most beautiful thing about her was her smile—a smile devoid of past trauma, pain, or fear.

As Martha reached the altar, James stepped forward, extending his hand to guide her up the wooden steps.

"You are breathtaking," James whispered, his eyes moist with joyful tears as he looked at his bride.

"You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Morrison," Martha whispered back with a playful, loving wink.

The minister smiled warmly at the couple and the three boys standing beside them.

"We are gathered here today," the minister began, "not merely to unite two souls in holy matrimony, but to celebrate the union of a family that was forged in the fire of resilience, truth, and unconditional love."

When it came time for the vows, James took both of Martha’s hands in his.

"Martha," James said, his deep voice carrying over the sound of the ocean waves. "A year ago, I was a lost man drowning in a dark sea of grief. I thought my role as a father was to protect my sons with cold walls and endless money. But you came into our broken home, and with simple kindness, infinite patience, and courageous love, you taught us how to live again. You didn't just save my children; you saved my heart. I promise to honor you, respect you, stand as your unbreakable shield, and love you with every beat of my heart for the rest of my days."

Martha wiped a sweet tear from her cheek, smiling through her happiness.

"James," Martha said, her voice clear and ringing with absolute devotion. "For three years, the world tried to tell me I was nothing, that I was broken and worthless. But when I looked into your eyes, and when I held your boys in the dark, I found my true purpose. You fought for my dignity when I had nothing left to give. You gave me a family to cherish, a home where I am loved, and a love that healed every scar I carried. I promise to be your partner, your refuge, your best friend, and a loving mother to our boys, today, tomorrow, and forever."

The minister turned to the three little boys. "And do you, Daniel, David, and Desmond, accept Martha as your mother, protector, and lifelong companion?"

All three boys shouted in unison, "Yes!" making the guests break out into joyful laughter.

"By the power vested in me," the minister announced with a wide grin, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. James, you may kiss your bride!"

James didn't hesitate. He pulled Martha into his arms and kissed her deeply, holding her close as the entire assembly erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.

When they pulled back, the three boys immediately tackled their parents in a huge group hug right at the altar, laughing and cheering under the sunny blue sky.

Later that evening, as the sun began to set over the ocean, casting a breathtaking golden orange hue over the beach, a grand celebration took place under a lit white canopy on the lawn. Music filled the air, glasses clinked, and happy laughter echoed across the water.

Martha stood near the edge of the wooden deck overlooking the ocean, holding a glass of sparkling cider, watching her three sons play tag on the lawn with the local children.

James walked up behind her, wrapping his warm arms around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.

"Happy, Mrs. Morrison?" James murmured softly, kissing her cheek.

Martha leaned back into his warm chest, looking out at her three healthy, laughing sons, and then turning her head to kiss the jawline of the man who had become her world.

"I’m more than happy, James," Martha whispered, her heart overflowing with deep, permanent peace. "I’m home."

Behind them, the three boys came running up the wooden steps, calling out their names with bright, joyful voices.

"Mom! Dad! Come on! May says it’s time to cut the cake!" Daniel yelled happily.

Martha’s eyes shined as she heard the word Mom spoken so naturally, so filled with love. She looked up at James, who offered her a proud, beautiful smile.

Together, hand in hand, the billionaire and his quiet maid—now husband and wife, father and mother—walked toward the glowing lights of their home, stepping into a future built on unbreakable love, absolute truth, and a family that would never be separated again.
